Opoku wins Tema Medal Golf

Tema, June 29, GNA - Ernest Opoku returned a net score of 73

to win this month's Tema Country Golf Club Medal Open

Championship played at Tema on Saturday. Opoku who played 39 Back and 39 Front with a Handicap of

five, beat a field of over 80 golfers to emerge champion for the first

time. The second position was taken by Samran Obeiro with 76 net

when he beat Martin Briggs on count-back to the third position. 'Lady Scientific' Florence Etwi-Barimah won the prize for the

Ladies event when she returned a net score of 77 to clinch victory. The one-day 18-Hole Medal Play event, opened to amateur

golfers from Achimota, Tema and Celebrity Golf Clubs, was

sponsored by the Tema Country Golf Club. Mr William Asiedu Yeboah, Captain of the Tema Country Golf

Club praised the participants for the exhibiting good sportsmanship. He called on members of the Club to return their cards and pay

their entry fees before noon on competition days. Meanwhile, the Club would hold its Republic Day Championship

on Tuesday, July 1. About 100 golfers are expected to participate in the competition

which forms part of activities marking the 48th Anniversary of

Ghana's Republic.
