Mensah and Nyarko win Lipton anniversary golf championship

Tema, Aug. 3, GNA - The pair of Ebenezer Tetteh Mensah and Edward Nyarko returned a gross score of 68 to win the Lipton Bi-Monthly First anniversary Invitational Golf Championship played at the Tema Country Golf Course on Sunday.

Mike Aggrey and his partner, Mike Osei placed second with 72 gross, beating Gyimah Kwakye and Grace Afriyie on count-back.

In the 93Best Net" event, Yelbert/Aziz-Amankwah Abdul came first with 64 net, Ernest Opoku and his partner, Samuel Ayornu came second with 65 net while Mary Kronberg and Benjamin Dabrah placed third with 66 net.

In the professionals segment, Vincent Torgah emerged champion with 150 gross, Anthony Gbenyor came second with 151 gross after he beat John Mawuli on count-back while Stephen Klah placed fourth with 152 gross.

The one-day event was sponsored by Unilever Ghana Limited.

Mr Kweku Okyere, Captain of the Tema Country Golf Club praised the company for their contribution towards the development of the sport and called on other corporate bodies to help develop the game in the country.

Mr Charles Cofie, Chief Executive Officer of Unilever Ghana gave the assurance that his company would continue to sponsor the event in the coming years.

Management of the Tema Country Golf Club later presented a special prize to the Chief Executive Officer of Unilver.

The competition attracted about 150 golfers from throughout the country.
