Lee lifts Kim Memorial golf trophy

Lee returned 67 net to win this year's Bok Nam Kim Memorial Open Golf championship played at the Tema Country Golf Course on Saturday.

Richard Aziamakpor came second with 69 net, H.S. Jeon took the third position with 70 net, beating S.O. Chun and Nana Owusu-Afari on countback while the sixth position went to F.A. Sogbordjor with 71 net.

Mona Captan won the Ladies event with 68 net, Grace Komladzei came second with 70 net, Florence Etwi-Barima was third with 71 net while Esther Antwi placed fourth with 72 net.

In the Professionals event, Baba Akologo beat a field of 15 to win the trophy for the first time after several attempts, with a gross score of 143 pushing the defending champion, Victor Brave-Mensah to the third position with a gross score of 145.

Paul Dossey took the second position with a gross score of 144, Anthony Amuzu came fourth with 146 gross, while John Dorman placed fifth with 147 gross.

The one-day 18-hole stableford competition which opened to professional and amateur golfers throughout the country was to honour Mr Bok Nam Kim, former Chief Executive Officer of Afko Group of Companies who single-handedly sponsored Ghana's contingent to the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. He died in 1995.

The event attracted more than 150 golfers and it was sponsored by Afko Group of Companies.

Mr Felix Owusu-Adjapong, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, praised the late Mr Kim for his immense contribution to the development of golf and sports in general.

Mr S.O. Chun, Deputy Managing Director of Afko Fisheries ,on behalf of Afko Group, presented a cheque for 10 million cedis to the Tema Country Golf Club.
