Kpakpa wins Unilever golf trophy

Joshua Kpakpa scored 41 points to win the 39th Annual Unilever Ghana Limited Golf Championship played at the Achimota golf Course in Accra on Saturday.

He scored 24 points on the first hole nine, and 17 on the second hole nine to beat a field of over 120 golfers to win the one-day 18-hole stableford competition. It was his first win at the course.

J.O. Amoako came second with 40 points, David Owen was third with 39 points, Nick Smallman took the fourth position with 38 points, while Charlels Tabi placed fifth with 36 points.

Suzie Kumassah won the Ladies event with 37 points, Mona Captan came second with 36 points, Mary Asafu-Adjaye placed third with 35 points, Wilfred Aggrey took the fourth position with 35 points, beating Beatrice Henel on count back.

Victor Brave-Mensah came first in the Professionals category with 72 gross, Paul Dossey and John Dorman shared the second spot with 73 gross, J.J. Harvey took the fourth position with 75 gross while J.N. Quarshie and Robert Degbe tied at the fifth position with 77 gross.

Mr Samuel Leslie Adetola, Captain of the Achimota Golf Club praised Unilever for their immense contribution to the club. He said members cherish the contribution of Unilever immensely and hoped it would be sustained.

For their contribution to the club, the Houseway Half of the club has been re- named Unilever Houseway Half.

Mr Norman Swanepoel, Commercial Director of Unilever Ghana said he was happy about the high standard exhibited by the participants and hoped his company would sponsor next year's event with more attractive prizes at stake.
