Govinous wins CAL Bank Golf

Accra, Aug. 18, GNA - Kingsley T. Govinous scored 41 points to win this year's CAL Bank Open Golf Championship at the Achimota Golf Course in Accra on Saturday.

K. Ampofo-Yeboah followed at second position with 40 points whilst Richard Coffie placed third with 39 points, when he beat Godfred Sai on count-back, while Nicolo Catto placed fifth with 37 points. In the Ladies event, Margaret Owusu-Baah came first with 38 points, followed by Victoria Adjei with 32 points after she beat Suzie Abaloo-Kumasah on count-back while Eunice Adzakpo came fourth with 31 points.

In the Juniors category, nine-year-old Daniel List came first with 52 net, Paul Tuni followed at second position with 56 net with Ahomka Lindsay placed third with 67 net.

The one-day 18-Hole Medal Play competition, which was opened to amateur golfers throughout the country, attracted 170 participants. Mr Mike Ezan, President of the Achimota Golf Club commended the Bank for sustaining the competition over the past years. He appealed to other corporate bodies and institutions to help develop the sport in the country.

Mr Frank Adu, Managing Director of the Bank said the sponsorship deal was another step in its direction of performing a corporate social responsibility, in enabling atmosphere, where 'we can all relax, have fun, break boundaries, network and create business relationships'. He gave the assurance that the Bank would continue to support the development of the sport in the ensuing years.
