Golfers prepare for Spinal Awareness Classic

Tema, June 10, GNA - All is set for the maiden Spinal Awareness Classic Open Golf Championship scheduled for the Celebrity Golf Course at Sakumono, near Tema on Saturday, June 13. The event, dubbed "Swing for your Spines" forms part of activities marking the celebrations of this year's Spinal Awareness Week. Mr Joe Ohemeng, Captain of the Celebrity Golf Club told GNA Sports at Tema on Wednesday, that about 120 golfers are expected to participate in the competition which is being supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Women's and Children's Affairs and the Chiropractic Wellness Centre.

He said the competition which would be played in accordance with the local rules of the Club and the rules of the world's Golf governing body, has Handicap 18 and 24 respectively as the entry requirements. The Captain said some of the participants include Joe Ampofo, Akwasi Opoku, Theo Asampong and Abdul Aziz-Amankwa, all of the Celebrity Golf Club.

The Achimota team, which would be led by their captain, Mike Aggrey, would include Matthias Dorfe, Charles Tabi, Mike Ezan, Wisdom Asempa and Yaw Assah-Sam. There would be prizes for 'The longest drive on Hole 17' and the 'Nearest to the Pin on Hole 18'. 10 June 09
