Fisher wins May Day Golf championship

Accra, May 1, GNA - Geoff Fisher scored 44 points to win the 13th Annual Achimota Golf Club May Day Price Championship played at the Achimota Golf Course in Accra on Monday.

Jean Francois came second with 41 points followed by Kwesi Essel-Koomson at third position with 39 points after beating Nicolo Catto, the defending champion on count-back while Peter Klopemberg placed fifth with 38 points.

Suzie Abaloo-Kumassah won the Ladies category with 39 points with Erica Van-Luit placing second with 38 points when she beat Francisca Vandyck on count-back while Beatrice Hampton placed fourth with 37 points, also beating Jackie Martins on count-back. The One-Day 18-Hole stable-ford competition which was opened to amateur golfers from Achimota, Tema and Celebrity Golf Clubs, attracted over 100 golfers.

The Championship was sponsored by Mrs Clara Price, Lady Captain of the Achimota Golf Club and wife of the late Mr Michael Price, a senior member of the Club who died about 14 years ago.

Naval Captain K.A. Butah, Vice President of the Achimota Golf Club described the contributions of the late Mr Price as unique and which has helped to put the Club in the limelight. He called on the members to take active interest in the activities of the Club to enable them compete with their counterparts from other clubs.

Naval captain Butah was assisted by Mrs Price to present the prizes to the winners.
