Amuzu wins Unilever Golf

Accra, June 9, GNA-- John Amuzu scored 47 points, to win this year's Unilever Ghana Limited Open Golf Championship played at the Achimota Golf Course in Accra on Saturday.

He was followed by George Jones with 37 points, beating M. Maquire on count-back, while Kofi Tettedzie took the fourth position with 36 points, beating Geoff Fisher on count-back.

Esther Amedzro won the Ladies category with 34 points, beating Ellen Lomans on count-back, Beatrice Heniel placed third with 32 points, while Beatrice Harrington took the fourth position with 31 points, beating Beatrice Vetsche-Bempong on count-back.

In the Juniors event, Daniel List came first with 40 points, while the second position went to Kaela Stubenvoc, with 35 points. Kojo Barni and Emos Korblah tied in the first position of the Professional's category with 142 gross, Victor Brave-Mensah took the third position with 144 gross, Stephen Klah came fourth with 146 gross while John Mawuli placed fifth with 147 gross.

Mr. Bob Evans, Captain of the Achimota Golf Club commended Unilever Ghana for sponsoring the competition for the past 43 years. He called on other corporate bodies, institutions and individuals to help develop the sport.

Mr. Charles Cofie, Chief Executive of Unilever Ghana Limited said the company sponsored the competition as part of its corporate responsibility of contributing to the development of sports. He gave the assurance that, the company would continue to support the club in coming years.

Mr Mike Ezan, President of the Achimota Golf Club, was assisted by Mr Cofie to present the trophies to the winners.
