Achimota Golf Club launches Masters Tournament

Accra, Aug. 26, GNA - Achimota Golf Club (AGC) on Wednesday, launched a special Champion of Champions Tournament dubbed "the Achimota Infinity Masters Tournament".

The tournament, scheduled from Saturday, August 29, to Sunday, August 30, Club's course is expected to bring together winners and runners up of previous competitions on a single platform. The tournament will be sponsored by Infinity Tyres Ghana Limited, dealers in automotive tyres and batteries in Ghana and Nigeria. Mr Mike Aggrey, captain of Achimota Gold Club at the launch of the tournament said the event is expected to attract the best golfers in the Club because winners and runners up of other tournaments in the past four years will participate.

He said the first day of the tournament will be used to test the endurance of the golfers as well as select golfers for the next day of the tournament.

Mr Arvinder Singh, Country Manager of Infinity Tyres Ghana Limited said his outfit was committed to the development of the game in Ghana. He said the company will develop and nurture the tournament into an annual event as part of their efforts to promote the sport. Mr Singh said the company is in Ghana not only to make profits but provide professional service to Ghanaians by establishing Service Centers across the country.

The Country Manager said the company is also committed to providing and catering for all segments of the motoring public. Naval Capt. (RTD) Kwadjo Butah, Vice President of the Club said the tournament forms part of activities marking its 75th Anniversary Celebrations, adding that series of such events have been planned for the rest of the year.

He said the Club has also put in place a massive renovation exercise aimed at providing adequate shelter to golfers, whilst a special raffle has been developed to ensure the participation of many more golfers in the anniversary.

Naval Capt. Butah said plans are in place to reward the winner of the raffle with a car since they are bent on organizing a memorable event.

He added that the celebrations will be rounded up with a special gala session at the Holiday Inn Hotel. The 75th Anniversary has been fixed for October 17-26, 2009.
