18-hole tournament held in Gyatekrom

Winneba, (C/R) Sept. 3 GNA - The Gyatekrom Windy Bay Golf Club Link in Winneba held an eighteen-hole tournament to mark the 7th Anniversary celebration of the Club at Winneba.

Twenty-four Golfers from Kumasi, Achimota and Celebrity Golf Clubs in Accra participated in the tournament.

Also in attendance were the current President of Ghana Golfer Association (GGA), Dr. Kofi Ntsiful, the mediate past President, Professor Mike Erzan and other executive members of the Association. Dr. Ntsiful said the time has come for people to discard the notion that the sport of golf is meant only for old age and therefore appealed to especially the youth to participate in the game.

He called on Golfers to play in accordance with the rules and regulations of the sport encourage others patronize the sport. Mr. Kweku Ghartey Sam, President of the Winneba Windy Bay Golf Club, which is the youngest Golf Club in the country, appealed to all golfers of the club to contribute toward the promotion of the sport to catch up with the standard of the rests.

Mr. Ibrahim Sunday of Celebrity Golf won the tournament in the Men's division with 60 points on Handy- cup 15, followed by Mr. Ben Abu of Windy Bay Golf Club who played at Handy-cup 6 with 60 points. Dr. Ntsiful played with Handy-cup 18 and scored 82 points to place third.

In the Women' division, Mary Morgan from Achimota Golf club played at Handy-cup 15 to score 78 points to take the first position, while Rita Dzubey also from Achimota Golf club who played with Handy-cup 20 placed second with 82 points.

Mr Ghartey Sam presented trophies to the participants.
