You said it should be set against the maximum recommended by the law but you don't know that maximum.
When you were writing this piece at this point, why didn't you pause the find out the maximum by researching it or asking others who may know? Was it just laziness to do the appropriate research? You had time to talk about Clinton and his last day in office pardon, the likelihood of his becoming "first gentleman", etc but no time to find out issues about the crux of your own piece.
What is the benchmark - the gap between the present sentence and the maximum allowable? What about the minimum? Any precedence?
I think that gap spoils an otherwise nicely argued piece.

A fine limited to three times their salary?
There are countries that have that type of punishment - linking the fine to one's income (specifically daily income - the so called day fines). But it seems Ghana doesn't have that system.
We still have to know the type of punishment recommended by the law and where the justices find themselves in that regard.
And what were the reasons given by the justices themselves for the level of punishment? People aren't talking about that...

When in 2013 the Supreme Court under this same Chief Justice ruled in favor of John Draamani Mahama and the NDC the NPP and Nana Addo in the election petition, Nana Addo and the NPP were dissatisfied but they accepted the verdict because the apex court had ruled. I entreat the President and the NDC to emulate this good example.

If that is the case, then let us revisit punishment JJ Rawlings met it out against Judge Cecilia Koranteng Addo and others. Let us see how many of notorious NDC like 'Con man ' Ato Dadzie will defend those innocent victims JJ killed for no reason.
