My brothers, are you not thinking(I know you are) that you think that using a local anguage(I wont even ask which!) is going to do us any good.
We have been using this stupid foreign language imposed on us (and we have learnt it well) for some 150years today, see how well we know it but can't use it yet.
THE PROBLEM IS NOT THE LANGUAGE THAT WE USE BUT THE KIND OF IDIOTS WE ARE IN GHANA. EVEN IF YOU BRING US A "HEAVEN LANGUAGE" OR THE LANGUAGE OF ADAM AND EVE OUR REAL FOREFATHERS, NOTHING WLD HAPPEN. GHANA AND GHANAIANS ARE STUPID AND IMBECELIC AND UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING.
Secondly, which language are we going to use?. Don't tell me Twi because its NOT a sophisticated language at all. Let me tell you that if you line all the about 60 languages of Ghana in list of competency, grammer, words, quality, expression etc. Twi will nt get number TEN.
STOP wasting our time with this idiocy of "using local language".
If you have been given some money by some "NGO" or aforeign mother-fucker and sister-fucker and even brother-fucker Organisation, give back their mony or wallow in your shame and stupidity.
Mark my words: Using a local langage WILL NOT HAPPEN IN THE NEXT 50YEARS!
When I am in Ghana soon I shall come to your office, so that if you want a national public debate between us, you organize it. I A READY ANY DAY!
Tweaaaaaa !

Please NDC, stop playing Cinderella with our education system. Tanzania experimented with Swahili and the country became a nation of illiterates and they stopped. Let us learn from the mistakes of others and from the mistakes of our past. The Minister of Education should conduct empirical research before coming out with zany and weird ideas. If it is not broken, don't fix it.

But if we want to choose among the lot then "Ewe" is the best.

What the mininster is saying is that every ethnic group should be able to use its language as the medium of instruction, she is not advocating a common language, but Twi will remain a national language whether we like it or not. It is by reason that over 50 percent of the population use it widely. There is not reason why one should be angry about this. All is well, and we're all one people.

The problem with some of you those from the southern part of Ghana is that when you talk of local languages? You are referring to Twi, GA, Fanta, Ewe and maybe one or two dialects spoken in the northern part of Ghana. Note that I am refusing to say north, because there is a northern region. So you cannot just say north and be referring to all three regions up there. In my case, I worked in Kumasi and later in Accra. If it is true that children have a good educational foundation through the use of their local language, how will my children benefit from this policy? They studied Twi as a foreign language just as they studied English as a foreign language. Fortunately for them, all the mathematical symbols, science and other subjects, perhaps apart from cultural studies are better understood in English. The bottom line is that Ghana has become so cosmopolitan that you cannot implement the use of local languages as medium of instruction without putting so many children at a disadvantage. When most of you talk of local language, you only think of Twi. You may dishonestly include GA and Ewe but you really wish Twi would prevail. But I tell you, it will not happen in the nearest future, even though it is the most predominately.

Jew guy, so if you lived in Kumasi, twi will be the medium of instruction, in Bolgatanger it will be Bolga, in Ho it will be Ewe, in Accra it should be Ga. I don't see what your problem is.

The use of mother tongue as language of instruction does not exclude the learning of English as a lingua franca. A lingua franca is the most widely spoken worldwide and that will be English. The language of instruction is supposed to be the language a child speaks at home. In Europe, America, etc a child learns a lingua franca and then up to High School he learns and writes his exams in his home language. Britain has 10 languages and other immigrant languages permitted in its education system. Its not just English.
