They have a choice and discretion. Why should they resign for a heinous crime perpetrated by someone.
Are they the only enemies of the late Mahama Adam? He might have stepped on some wrong toes elsewhere? I just cant comprehend why they have to relinquish their mandated jobs based on rumour.
The enemy in NPP is Freddie Blay. First he is a CPP man bent on destroying the NPP. Why he decided to usurp the powers of the two officials whilst they were away is part of a grand scheme sanctioned by Nana Addo.
Your argument of the two not being able to function well because of accusations does not make sense.
Good leaders base their actions on their convictions of what they believe is right for their people in line with their mandated duties. They dont need to tick all the right boxes for a popularity contest.
Nana Addo has a track record of making life uncomfortable for his rivals whenever he loses any contest. Ghanaians have not forgotten the 8 months at the SC and his continuous manipulation of Think Tanks and Pressur Groups to make Ghana ungovernable.
It is the same tactics that he is applying within his party using CPP's Freddie Blay.
The Bin Laden of Ghana- Nana Addo- needs to be told in plain truth that the Ghanaian is a patient warrior who trades blows in a measured way. Ghanaians will punish him in 2016.
The writings are all over the place. It is only the blind who cannot see this Tsunami coming.
In the end we will write an Epitaph of ' And here lies the man who was so determined to wrestle power that does not belong to him that he died by his own sword.'

Dr SAS, on face value, your analysis appears to be fair and reasonable but it lacks objectivity for assuming that the lack of unity within the NPP is all due to Chairman Afoko and General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong not willing to work with others or some people. Unity, cooperation, partnership or collaboration is a two-way traffic. To be objective and fair to all sides, has cooperation been forthcoming from the others to Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong?
My answer to the above question is no. In fact, my view is that they have been undermined by those who consider them to be part of the so-called 2020 Agenda. Why do I say so? The meeting called by the Vice-Chairman when the Chairman was out of the country and the General Secretary was attending the funeral rites of his mother in law.
What was so important that one would call a meeting when the Secretary General was attending the funeral rites of the mother in law (in Ghana)? I expected some of the party leaders to have accompanied Kwabena Agyapong to the funeral of his mother in law and not call a meeting.
Moreover, if the meeting was not meant to undermine the Chairman, the Vice-Chair would have had discussed with Chairman in advance (either by phone or through e-mail, whatsapp, etc)to discuss the need for the meeting, the agenda, etc whilst he was away from the country. The same would have applied to the General Secretary, whilst he was at his mother in law's funeral.
Having said the above, I agree with you that the position of the Chairman has become untenable if his brother is in any way involved with the acid attack and the murder of Mr Adam Mahama. It does not matter whether he, Afoko was aware or unaware of his brother's action, he must resign.
As far as Kwabena Agyapong is concerned, his position is very unfortunate but he will also have to resign by default. I agree with you that it was their unannounced visit to the region without the prior knowledge of the Regional Chairman and subsequent attack on them by party supporters, the press statement by the Regional Chairman which culminated in the acid attack and the murder of Adam Mahama. Why will the National Chairman and General Secretary visit a region on party duties without informing the Regional Party Chairman in advance? Is it not the Regional Chairman who should play host to them and ensure that their visit to the region is successful? Is it not the regional chairman who know best the region, the current situation, etc? Why the failure to inform the regional chairman and his executives?
For this reason Kwabena Agyapong by some association of the divide and rule tactics that has gone terribly wrong, he must resign his position.
Sadly, I am not convinced that the resignation or expulsion of the two will will bring peace and unity. I hope I am wrong but I am hoping that as Dr Bawumia says, Mr Adam Mahama's murder would not be in vain but bring all the factions within the party together. There is nothing wrong with having factions in political parties and indeed, they do exist everywhere in the developed and developing democracies. It is how the factions are managed for the common good of the party, that makes the difference.

Good thinking Kofi.
But if I headed any institution, I would not be bothered if any of my qualified subordinates called a meeting in my absence. A meeting is harmless, unless the agenda is dangerous or spurious. So I have stated elsewhere that the hullabaloo concerning the meeting was uncalled for, and merely signifies deep-seated divisions and suspicions within the executive ranks. And on its face alone, that meeting issue is now moot because it appeared to have been somehow resolved.
And you can even say the same for the scuffle that ensued during the two officers' visit to the Upper-East that it was somehow resolved by the apology of the Regional Chairman.
Reasonably therefore, all these matters ought not bring about the tragic death of anybody, but they have; and as I stated in this article, Afoko and Agyepong are not to blame for this crime. I also stated that I do not even see any constitutional grounds for their impeachment. All these caveats were lost upon some readers who did not understand my argument in this article but chose to comment on it anyhow.
However, this crime of aggravated murder is of such a gargantuan nature that it has rendered the two officers incapable of performing their job functions. Wherever they go, their lives and the lives of others are in extreme danger. Incapability or incapacity to perform one's job functions is a compelling reason for one to resign one's position.
This article does not argue any lack of unity or cooperation or partnership as bases for the two to resign but the imminence of death or substantial bodily harm to them and others....something that will not make it possible for them to work.
Hence my call for the two to resign. I agree that peace or unity may not necessarily result in their resignation, but the NPP is caught between a rock and a hard place, and I can see how the resignation could create a new opportunity for the party. Their continued stay in office will seal their fate and the fate of the NPP.

Dr SAS, in principle, I agreed with your "spirit" of the law approach on this matter. Perhaps, and on a second thought, I was probably unfair to you in the first post that your analysis and conclusion were not objective because you did not mention the difficulties the two have faced since their election. I agree with you that all those matters are irrelevant in view of the recent development.
As I said, NPP must manage this matter carefully and expeditiously before it gets out of hand. Forcing the two out may not bring the expected unity. I have just read on Ghanaweb a planned meeting by Regional Chairmen of the party for a vote of no confidence in the two and to demand their removal. According to the Graphic report, Mr Afoko claimed he had previously agreed with the Flagebearer and other party leaders to hold a National Executive and National Council meeting today. He is also reported to have said that he was informed of today's Regional Chairmen's meeting by the Flagbearer. It is also alleged that the Regional Chairmen meeting was instigated by the Flagbearer.
If the above reports are accurate, who is who in the party when it comes to taking strategic and long term decisions? Is it the National Executive together with the National Council or the Regional Chairmen?
Sorry, these were not part of your article.

Kofi Atta, SAS is utilizing legal nuances to throw dust into the eyes of the least sophisticated. He is clearly pushing an agenda here and that is the ouster of Afoko and Agyepong. Both men have been to say the least, absolutely dismal in the discharge of their duties. However, a rush to push or nudge them out will ignite a firestorm that will be hard to put out. Let us not gloss over the fact that these men however horrendous they may be have their clusters of supporters and these would take any decision to minimize the influence of the two men as an affront.
Political assassination of the kind visited on Mahama is regrettable but it has its genesis in the NPP's abject failure to stamp out the many divisions within its leadership ranks. Until this is accomplished, expect more turmoil.

I thought SAS advanced practical arguments why they should resign their positions voluntarily. I donot detect any under current agenda on the part of what SAS has aptly

There is no collection of classroom earned degrees that can trump wisdom, principles and intellectual honesty. You, Dr. Samuel Sarfo, and other presumed intellectuals of the classroom kind have not deemed it a priority to dispel the notion or belief amongst Ghana's under educated and uneducated that classroom acquired knowledge is synonymous to wisdom and thus have made it acceptable to be a hypocrite in Ghana and for those of you living outside these shores to be equally hypocritical, illogical and intellectually dishonest in your writings. NPP has never been a party of modesty and or disposed to life of respect for others with different political ideological leanings.
NPP folks have never been weaned off violence dating back to their beginnings as UP/UGCC/matemeho; pretending the death of anyone matters in an NPP quest to become the majority party in Ghana is as palpable and honest as Nana Akufo-Addo apologizing for "all die be die" production. Since when did the NPP respect the lives of anyone outside of the Ashanti-Kyebi alliance? Is there any Ashanti or Kyebi person who has ever respected any Ghanaian from Ghana's Northern region? Dr. Bawumia is just a tool to be used just like all the other tools used over the years with minimal success at governing by parties with NPP ideology. If destroying Ghana's government institutions and laying it bare with lack of opportunities over 40+ years by their benchmark 1966 coup was not enough to cause the NPP to be retrospective of their acts of evil and mayhem what is the death of a couple of people going to do? Did people not die during the 1966 coup and many more years thereafter?
