NPP NEC Must Heed Amoako-Baah's Advice, Pronto!

The call by KNUST's Dr. Amoako-Baah for Dr. McHypocrite to be promptly and summarily expelled from the country's main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) ought to be accorded utmost priority (See "Amoako-Baah Demands Expulsion of..." MyJoyOnline.com / Ghanaweb.com 5/14/15). The Head of the Political Science Department at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science And Technology, Kumasi, based his well-considered opinion on an article written and published by Dr. McHypocrite, a failed NPP presidential-candidacy aspirant, in which the South Carolina resident, notorious for renting out his medical-practice license for profit, virulently accused the 2016 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic of scheming to oust the flagrantly narcissistic General-Secretary of the party from Mr. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong's "duly mandated" job.

Well, the incontrovertible fact of the matter is that since he was elected to his present post last year, the unabashedly anti-Akufo-Addo scribe has wasted no time in sending unmistakable signals to the National Executive Committee/Council (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party that as long as his favorite choice of presidential candidate did not get the nod of party delegates to represent the NPP in the 2016 general election, Mr. Agyepong is hell-bent on scuttling Nana Akufo-Addo's chances at clinching the presidency. A couple of weeks ago, for instance, Mr. Agyepong made good on his vow and threat by conspicuously skipping an emergency meeting convened at the party's national headquarters, in Accra, in order to heartily relish what the General-Secretary described as his "sumptuous Kumasi Fufuo."

There is clearly a sub-ethnic conflict of interests raging within the party, the vehement public denial of which continues to seriously undermine the necessary united front required for the New Patrotic Party to have a fighting chance at Election 2016. Dr. Amoako-Baah aptly and wisely put his rhetorical finger smack-dab on the hot-button issue when he called for the immediate expulsion of Dr. McHypocrite from the party. About the only point on which yours truly begs to differ with Dr. Amoako-Baah regards the need for the NPP leadership to forewarn Dr. McHypocrite to cease and desist before shoving him out of the party. The brazen and impenitent reprobate has already had more than his lion's share of warnings. He has, for example, witnessed the suspension of his bosom buddy, Dr. McNasty, from membership of the party. And, it ought to be pointedly underscored that Dr. McNasty has a respectable pedigree in the Danquah-Busia-Dombo Tradition which Dr. McHypocrite can scarcely dream of.

Let no one make any mistake, the sort of politics of personal destruction doggedly engaged by Dr. McHypocrite has absolutely no place, whatsoever, in any salutary constitutional democracy. He would definitely be expelled from either major party of the United States, were the South Carolina resident to attempt to indulge in the sort of retrograde game that he has been recklessly playing with the fortunes of the New Patriotic Party for nearly a decade now. Very likely, he would have been placed under surveillance and investigated for possible links to a seditious political organization. As it stands, Dr. McHypocrite is fully aware of the fragile state of Ghanaian democracy, and in particlar painstaking measures being engaged by the NPP leadership not to be seen to be acting contrary to the sort of ideological liberalism established and championed by the giant likes of Dr. J. B. Danquah.

And it is precisely because of such deliberately calculated acts of mischief that the leadership of the New Patriotic Party ought to teach Dr. McHypocrite the fact that being faultingly tolerant does not mean that Ghana's most progressive political party welcomes gross indiscipline, abuse and the narcissistic resort to chaos and anomie disguised as either free speech or constructive criticism.
