Is NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Wontumi Facing An Uphill Battle Justifying…?

The NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, famously Chairman Wontumi, has for the past many months locked horns with Ibrahim Mahama, the younger brother of President Mahama. Ibrahim has sued Chairman Wontumi for defamation of character. He claims to suffer public ridicule and snobbery following a purported accusation levelled against him by the energetic, patriotic and selfless Ghanaian - Chairman Wontumi.



It is alleged that Ibrahim Mahama, a self-nicknamed Pepeni No. 1 & 2, has wantonly been exploiting his brotherhood with President Mahama to illegally enrich himself. He is not enthusiastic at all about Wontumi allegedly accusing him of wallowing in ill-gotten wealth; living a pompous life of out-and-out opulence at the expense of the overwhelmingly poor Ghanaian taxpayers. Subsequently, he has dragged him to court, seeking redress – the retraction of whatever derogatory statements Wontumi had made, or placed in the public domain, about him; the court restraining Wontumi from making any further such statements about him, and also, expecting to obtain further easy money within the region of GHc 2 million to GHc5 million for damages and compensation from him.



What a metaphorical situation of "wo nnya efunu twe a wo bedi" or "akoa yi nnya efunu twe a obedi". Anyone in Ghana, who will be honest with themselves, can say without fear or favour that Ibrahim has dubiously been living off the public purse, which occurrence is facilitated by the fact that his brother is in power.



One thing I know is how he somehow directly or indirectly participated in the collapse of the Merchant Bank of Ghana. The loan he took from the Bank, his intentional ploy to delay or deny payment that partly culminated in the bankruptcy of the bank and its eventual sale to some faceless persons, justifies whatever Wontumi might have said about him.



If he has not earned a pesewa illegally, out of the fact that his senior sibling is the President of Ghana, let him invoke the irreversible generational curses in the Bible, in the Koran and by the gods (fetishes), upon his head in attempts to exonerate himself of any blame of corruption. Until he does that, let him be drenched in shame for it is true that he has resorted to blatant acts of corruption made possible by his brother being in power, to acquire his immense wealth.



Do we leave Chairman Wontumi alone to suffer when indeed his motive was to secure Ghanaians a corrupt-free Ghana where natural justice and the rule of law will operate to the admiration of all, to guarantee the nation socio-economic progress? The battle is not for Wontumi to fight it all alone. We need to join hands with him to name, shame and uproot the cancerous corrupt persons from the Ghanaian society.



What about him tackling the obstinacy, unprofessionalism, corruption and abuse of position by the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan? This septuagenarian, although moving nearer to his grave by the stipulations of nature (age wise), still feels he is above the law hence pursuing an agenda that has the potency to plunge Ghana into civil war before he dies. It is time we stopped Afari Gyan in his collusive one-man-showmanship tracks before it becomes a situation of, "Had I known, which is always at last"



Why should we not rally around a visionary young man who is desirous to prevent Ghana from degenerating into that chaotic death trap? Should we sit down nonchalantly with the arms folded around the chest saying, this is not my battle but Wontumi's? No, we shouldn't. We should not sit on the fence while Ghana is plundered by a few rogues who know no shame, but are overflowing with insatiable greed.



We should rise up to the occasion. We should pull our collective efforts together to fight these evil entities in our present day Ghana. Even though they currently seem strong, God is stronger than them.



I personally throw my unflinching weight behind Chairman Wontumi in his battle with Ibrahim Mahama and Dr Afari Gyan, that notorious old man who is full of mischief unto death. My support for him is principally based on the fact and belief as expressed by the late Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia who said, "Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted; the indifference of those who should have known better; the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most; that has made it possible for evil to triumph".



However, I shall advise Chairman Wontumi to seize any opportunity of amicable settlement of differences between him and the mentioned two individuals, especially, Ibrahim Mahama. For it is said, "He who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day"

To Ibrahim Mahama and Kwadwo Afari Gyan, I say, "It takes a man to swallow his pride to say sorry" and don't forget, "Every Sampson has his Delilah". Your despicable actions cannot continue unchecked.
