EDUCO - EDUCERE: TO LEAD OUT OF.

Marcus,
You are right up to a certain point, but it is also true that education is meant to fit its recepients into society as our traditional "linguists, oral historians and herbalists", etc, were meant to.

Unfortunately, that is what even some of our PhD holders have not been able to do, as displayed on radio and television stations and the newspapers. It shows in our politicians when they take mobile phones from foreign countries and approve questionable contracts, when they approve agreements for purchases in which prices have been inflated 300 to 500%, when they ignore the Auditor General's revelation of annual thievery. And the list goes on.

It is not that the people who perpetrate this abominations do not know that these are wrong doings, they simply have not learnt to apply the knowledge they learnt at whatever level of education, for the betterment and the good of society. That is the tragedy of our education system.

When our president continues to appoint ineffective committees and reviews of GYEEDA, Isofoton, etc, do you really believe that he does not know what to do for the god of the people of Ghana? He is dribbling around because he really does not give a toss about what happens to society!
