To Who Ever Knows The Manhyia Palace

I was born and bred in the Ashanti Region. The Golden Kingdom. I occasionally visit Kumasi, aka- Oseikrom, other wise know as the Garden City (The only time I moved out of the Region was when I was offered a place in the Teacher Training College, now College of Education. It was a decision I took, not to chose a college in the Ashanti Region just to diffuse some of the Ashanti thing in me. Though I did not go far, just across the Pra river I went, and to Asokore in the Eastern Region, yet the College I attended could be described as 'cosmopolitan' of a sort, since almost every region was represented but we lived in peace. Besides the Certificate I obtained I had other wonderful friends in the persons of Tim Quashigah who was my school Dad.

Daitey who was my closet friend, the Ofosu-Appiahs from OFFIE - Akropong. who were more than anything to me and a host of others I am trying to state that when Ghana Converges at one place without acrimony it is always an envy to others. Sorry for taking you off the radar) Yes I do not know the famous Manhyia palace. I am told it is somewhere between, Ashanti New Town - Ashtown Krofofrom, and Asawasi. The last time I came close to passing by the Palace was last week Thursday, 29/11/12. Unfortunately, there was a Police brocade that evening so my dream did not come to pass. The reason for the brocade I later on learnt was as a result of a clash between the NPP and the NDC. I was taken aback All I could ask was so what happened to the Kumasi declaration witnessed by no other personalities like her ladyship the chief Justice, The Two distinguished former presidents, Jerry and JAK not forgetting the Asantehene - Otumfour Osei Tutu, some foreign dignitaries and almost all Ghanians. God forbid but if such a dastard scene could happen just on the heels of this touted event hosted by the KNUST, it couldn't have been at Manhyia. Yet, who knows, maybe, God is moving in one of his mysterious ways to perform his wonders. In the run up to the December elections there has been accusations and counter accusations therefore, what we are experiencing could not be of much surprise, simply because we saw them coming. When Joseph Yamim declared on air that some people in the Ashanti Region will cast half ballots, whilst others would not cast a single ballot at all as if he was the custodian of the ballot papers or the buck stops with him in the Ashanti Region, no body, I mean no body called him to order. Again when Fuseini Donkor and Hopeson Adoye turned the KESSBEN FM studio into a boxing arena we laughed it off and took it as one of those things yet we constantly cry for peace as if it is somethig sent from heaven without human efforts. This indifference is the worst form of crime we can commit to mankind. No wonder Ellen G White once said " one of the greatest sins for which God will judge his people is doing nothing in the face of Energency " If what we are hearing and witnessing in Ghana of late is not an Emergency then one has to give me free tuition on that word. It is for this reason that I am LURKING around Kumasi Kejetia looking for somebody who doesn't just know the Manhyia palace but whose legs can carry him to the presence of the Asanteehene to present this on my behalf, because even if I am shown the palace I do not think I have the guts to present it to the King. My message is simple but with all humility, Nana, I am on my knees, kindly summon Dr Afan Djan and the Regional police commander to hold your feet (as we were asked to do anytime we proved stubborn as children ) and promise you that they would be truly professional and honest in the discharge of their duties before, during and after the elections in order not to turn Ashanti Region into a war zone I am not qualified to remind Nana that whatever affects the people of the Ashanti Region in particular , affects his august throne.(so i would not do that) because he is much more aware and concerned than I do. There is a huge cloud of despair hanging over the Ashanti Region that if we leave everything to chance, we would not have another chance to take any more chances. Before I end, I wish to remind Dr Afan Djan that he has got this particular elections to ice his cake. He should not forget that when the curtain is drawn on his career as the chairman of the EC. probably at the end of this elections, his real personality will unfold. That this year's elections will be his hand-written EPITAPH. when he one day joins the silent majority.

Also , he should aspire to become the OASIS of hope in this turbulent continent of ours where elections have become our bane. In conclusion, should this piece get to the Manhyia Palace and to the Asantehene I respectfully and humbly call on him, to as a matter of urgency endeavour to summon Dr Afan Djan and Mr Gyening the Regional Police Commander to as it where touch his feet and promise Nana, that professionalism would be their watch word other wise the hopes' interests and aspirations of the Kumasi Declaration would be a mirage. At least the presidential and parliament candidate matter just as the woman children and the physically challenged amongst us Matter the most . Thank you so very much Nana, for your efforts for peace.

Your grandson.
