Nana Konadu’s Unholy Alliance With Akufo-Addo

By Margaret Jackson

May 19, 2012

Wonders they say shall never end, that is why people also tend to have short memories. If Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings is walking as a free woman on the streets of Ghana today, she largely owes it to the win of President Mills in the 2008 elections. Believe me, if the NDC had gone down in the 2008 elections, Nana Konadu would have been languishing in jail by now. There is no way she would be walking with the swagger and long head gear we see today.

Therefore, if I were Nana Konadu, before I retire to bed every day, I would first off thank God and ask for his supreme blessings, knowledge, strength and wisdom for President Mills. If Nana Konadu has a short memory, I want to remind her that it was when President Mills had been declared winner in the 2008 elections, that then out-going President Kufuor Nicodemously pardoned her.

We all know that it was Akufo-Addo, then Attorney General under the Kufuor’s regime, which started the prosecution of Nana Konadu and others in connection with the divestiture of the GIHOC Nsawam Cannery. They were charged on four counts of causing loss to public property to the tune of over 9.2 billion cedis and using false statements to obtain public property.

During the prosecution of the case Nana Konadu was seen in court very often, but the NDC family showed a lot of solidarity towards her, by thronging the court to lend their support. What do you think would have happened to Nana Konadu if Akufo-Addo, the very man who was hell bent on sending Nana Konadu to jail had been sworn into office as Executive President of the Republic of Ghana on Wednesday January 7, 2009?

And President Mills, who God used in saving Nana Konadu from total disintegration by way of changing her flashy “Kabas” to a jail jump suit, is now being hounded and vilified by Nana Konadu who has vowed to ensure that he does not get the nod from Ghanaians to win the up-coming elections on December 7, 2012.

And to add insult to injury, I have credible information that Nana Konadu has entered into an unholy alliance with Akufo-Addo by pledging to the NPP which has promised her mouth watering offers to torpedo the re-election of President Mills. I am very happy that the Fantes have this famous proverb that, “Nnyim Owu A Hwe Nda” meaning if you do not know anything about death you better go to the cemetery to see the graves.

I am told the NPP fraternity are using the ethnic card by drumming home to Nana Konadu to see what the Fantes and Ewes in the NDC have demeaned her and have virtually reduced her into a nonentity, and that the NPP would do everything within its power to give her the recognition as a former First Lady when they come into power. That is why the NPP is planning to bus their own supporters to the Volta Region to support Rawlings celebrate the 33rd anniversary of the June 4 Revolution, as a further proof of their ‘unflinching love’ towards Nana Konadu.

Nana Konadu who could not dislodge President Mills during the NDC’s Congress in Sunyani last year to elect the party’s flagbearer for the 2012 elections, is hell bent on drawing wedges in the NDC to prevent the party from winning the up-coming elections. At the age of 62, one wonders what Nana Konadu who had an uninterrupted power, glory, access, praises, love, attention, respect, kindness from the NDC family for well over 18 years still want from the NDC or Ghanaians? And because Nana Konadu does not have her way in the NDC by ordering President Mills around through her husband Rawlings, she is feverishly working tirelessly to derail the NDC’s chances of retaining power.

The NPP folks know how vicious Nana Konadu had been and still is, therefore, there is no way even an imaginary Akufo-Addo’s government would think of dancing and bed camping with Nana Konadu even for a second. They know her too well, probably far better than the NDC family which through its unalloyed love and allegiance did not get the chance reading Nana Konadu very well to know her true intentions and character trait.

Sometimes some people in the NDC family tend to blame Rawlings unnecessary. I agree that Rawlings is blamable in some instances, but the invisible hand that has been manipulating Rawlings by pulling the strings is no other person than manipulator-in-chief, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings. That woman who has driven all her true friends and that of Rawlings away due to her control freaking attitude and viciousness, is the person who daily drives Rawlings to do what he does.

There is a friend of my dad who famously stated that men of strong willed character normally crumble under the whims and caprices of their wives when they turn 50 onwards. And if I may go by this unscientific assertion, I would have to agree with my dad’s friend that what is happening to Rawlings today is a perfect example. Those who have been closest to Rawlings for years can testify how Nana Konadu used to fear Rawlings. Why has the tide therefore changed with Rawlings now not processing anything that Nana Konadu says before going to the bank with it?

It is gradually sinking in to the NDC family especially the party’s foot soldiers that they toiled in vain for Rawlings for almost two decades that he ruled Ghana, and that today with the active manipulations and machinations from his wife, Nana Konadu, the two are working assiduously in bringing the big umbrella down. If the genuine tears shared on Radio Gold on Tuesday by a lady from the Volta Region is anything to go by, it is a wake-up call to all NDC members that the party’s fortunes and that of the members are on the line, and that if they sleep under the watch, Nana Konadu who is the most contentious person ever to walk on the face of Ghana will send the NDC into opposition and later turn round to say, “I told you so.”
