May 9: Kotoko fans were at it again

l write this article as a good citizen of Ghana to congratulate and salute Accra Hearts of Oak fans for the great display of maturity at their home again against Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the Glo Ghana Premier League. Accra Hearts of Oak fans demonstrated great skill as good hosts and saved Ghana from another May 9 disaster.

Hearts supporters had within their reach all the powers as hosts to react to the missiles Kotoko fans were throwing but Hearts fans were tolerant on that occasion. I don’t know why up to now, a decade later, Kotoko fans have still not learnt their lessons from the May 9 2001 incident.

The Ghana league has lost its touch because of these incidences of hooliganism and l can’t believe a great team like Kotoko still adopt this canker as their strategy of showing displeasure at a referee’s performance. If Kotoko had a case, they should have apportioned the blame on that occasion to the poor attacking technique of their striker Nathaniel Asamoah, not referee Awal Mohammed.

By the way, both teams displayed good performance on the pitch and l hope as they continue doing that, the league is going to be competitive now that the defending champions Berekum Chelsea have started winning.

I entreat GFA Disciplinary committee to punish Kotoko to serve as a deterrent to other clubs, we don't want such hooligan attitude again in our league. The security of more than 500 policemen and 15 military men couldn't even make any arrest when the fans were throwing the missiles, sad indeed.

Berekum Chelsea, kudos to coach Hans van der Pluym for a great job and l hope they are going to edge out Kokoto next week from the top of the log because it would be unfair if they do not defend the league title looking at the materials at their disposal. Scoring fastest goal within a minute in an away game, not to any ordinary team, but a strong side especially at home like Edubiase, is a sign of success to the Berekum lads.

Bechem United, well done for winning your first match at your proper venue. I told you Kumasi can’t sustain your fortunes and now that your outfit have adhered to the advice, you are going to see good results in the subsequent home matches.

Kotoko ought to be punished, they should buy quality strikers and stop blaming referees.
