Give all space into our national teams

Currently, in my humble opinion, Ghana can only boast of Asamoah Gyan, the former ace Sutherland player as the only “goal scorer” for Ghana’s Black Star. Though there are others who score goals for the black star it is rare for them to score more than the usual one goal project most at times.

Scoring only a goal at tournaments against other sides is sometimes not encouraging when one observes how skillfully our players play on the field but putting the ball into the net becomes a great burden to carry.

One expects that black stars score as many goals as possible alongside their tactful plays. When more goals are scored that is when one gets the interest to keep watching and praying for them to score more and lift the flag of Ghana high. Scoring more goals than opponents on the field is a sign of a done deal that the successful side has a better chance of proceeding to the next stage.

Football has become the finest force of unity when the unwholesome political activities divide us against one another as though we are not one nation with a common destiny. Unwarranted politics such as incompetency combined with nauseating insults only inflict wounds on us but it takes an intervention from sports particularly football to heal us of those wounds.

Ghana’s Blacks Stars have come of age and to some extent given the nation some reputable recognition in the world at large. Since there is no limit in any human activity until it touches the sky, our stars can rise above sea level and fly to the apex of the sky if the Ghana Football Association and the National Sports Council can without prejudice consider the following thought provoking words from this humble article. The problem facing sports in the country should never be limited to only poor remuneration. After all, football for instance is about passion for the game and not the love for money. The problem, however, should be tamed on the selection approach of footballers into our national teams.

Ghana currently has ten regions. These ten regions are not only endowed with natural resources but also can boast of talented football legends that need the discovery of the football authorities.

There is no doubt that government has put in place measures where there are sporting activities designed in the school curriculum for basic schools especially to organize interschool competitions among others almost every year. Different schools in this category fiercely often battle it out for trophies. Some few pupils who excel among colleague squads are selected to play for inter-zonal base competition and finally proceed to regional levels.

One will ask where the expertise of these young talented footballers goes after their basic level education. Regrettably, once some of these guys complete their basic schools especially the financially challenged ones their enviable expertise are bitterly buried alive and can only resurrect after the second coming of Christ. There is simply nobody to push them forward as Ghana has become fond of the “whom you know syndrome” sick attitude.

We also have young guys in our communities who organize themselves often to play various games of interest.

Getting quality players is possible. It can be achieved within a second. It is just the matter of the organizers killing within themselves the look warm attitude and open their arms in glory for any persons who attempt to play and win laurels for the country. I will therefore like to suggest that every year, just as the recruitment of people into the security services, the same flood gate of heavenly blessings should be open for all football enthusiasts to converge at any of the stadia to show case their talent for possible selection and training into the local or national teams.

We should not forget that out of one thousand we can get hundred quality players who will be the next Ronaldinho, Kaka, Messi, just to mention a few. If this is taken into consideration Ghana will be a forever force to reckon with when it comes to sports.

Long live the dreams of Ghana’s sports, long live the ideals of comrade Selasie Yao Avornyo, the boy from Tanyigbe in the Ho Central of Volta Region of mother Ghana.
