The future of our party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), hinges on our commitment to internal democracy, rule of law, and fair play. As we navigate a crucial transition and rebuilding phase, the question of leadership is paramount. This brings us to a critical choice: a choice between two "Js." But when we look closely at the actions and principles of both contenders, the choice becomes clear. It must be J, not J; meaning Chairman James, not Chairman Janis.
To understand why Chairman Janis would be an awful choice for the leadership of our party, we only need to look at his recent actions regarding our electoral structures. Reports and internal concerns indicate that Chairman Janis chose to go behind the established NPP bylaws, appealing directly to NPP-Ghana to alter the rules and election guidelines. Such an act is not just a breach of procedure; it is a direct attempt to tilt the playing field and manipulate guidelines to favor his own team.
When a leader bypasses constitutional bylaws to engineer rules that benefit a specific faction, it undermines the very foundation of the party. It creates division, breeds mistrust among the grassroots, and threatens the democratic integrity we pride ourselves on. We cannot afford a leadership that treats the party’s sacred constitution as a flexible tool for personal or factional advantage.
In sharp contrast, Chairman James has consistently stood out as a beacon of transparency and institutional respect. Throughout his tenure and prominent involvement in party affairs, Chairman James has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to free, fair, and transparent elections. He has not sought backroom rule changes or shortcut methods to secure power. Instead, he has operated within the existing frameworks, trusting the judgment of the delegates and the strength of a clean contest.
Chairman James understands that a party is only as strong as its democratic systems. By promoting an environment where everyone has an equal and fair shot, he ensures that whoever emerges victorious possesses the true mandate and backing of the entire party. His prominent, transparent approach is exactly what the NPP needs to foster unity and build a resilient front.
The choice before us is simple. We can either choose a path of manipulation and altered bylaws under Chairman Janis, or we can choose a path of constitutional integrity, fairness, and grassroots empowerment under Chairman James. For the sake of the NPP and its democratic future, it must be Chairman James.
