A roundtable event brought together finance and development partners to explore these questions.
The Migration Finance Roundtable was convened by the Ghana Association of Banks and the Promoting Sustainable Migration, Decent Work and Professional Qualifications (MiWorQ) Programme, funded by the German Government.
Participants explored how financing can support regular labour migration for Ghanaian Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) graduates, from training and certification to the upfront costs of migration.
But financial literacy and partnerships with financial institutions go beyond helping migrants get across the starting line. They are also about building lasting financial relationships through savings, payments, investments, remittances and more.
The next step is to turn these ideas into practical, sustainable financing models that work for migrants, banks and other stakeholders involved in migration.
MiWorQ is an initiative of the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ), implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in partnership with the Ministry of Finance, Ghana and the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations
