Israel's Recognition of Somaliland: Could it spur Middle East peace and curb islamist terrorism in Africa?

Israel has recognised Somaliland Israel has recognised Somaliland

Dear critical reader, Israel's recognition of Somaliland is a pivotal strategic move in the fight against global terrorism. With a strategic African foothold in Somaliland, Israel could collaborate with the AU and the US to end piracy in African waters by tackling pirates operating in international waters from bases across Somalia's coastline, and those that operate in waters off the shores of West Africa.

It is widely acknowledged globally that Israel's counter-terrorism planning processes are unparalleled. With America's assistance, Israel could help the AU to route Islamist terrorist organisations in East and West Africa, in short order.

However, this depends on the wealthy Gulf states contributing USD 40 billion. The funds would be used to purchase the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt for a new Palestinian nation. This could be the perfect two-state solution to the Middle East's most intractable problem: ensuring peaceful coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians.

Finally, dear critical reader, a newly established Palestinian state in the Sinai Peninsula would make peaceful coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians possible. The security of this state would be guaranteed by the Arab League. This would relieve those worried about Palestinian civilians caught in the war to disarm and neutralise Hamas as an existential threat to Israel. No question.

The bonus is that this development would free Israel to focus on helping the AU and America wipe out Islamist terrorism in West and East Africa. Israel could collaborate with nations across both sub-regions to enhance regional security efforts. This would stabilise nations like Somalia in East Africa, and Burkina Faso, Guinea, Mali, and Nigeria in West Africa, currently affected by Islamist terrorism and piracy.
