Why is the world laughing at Ghana?

If you want to see how hard a Ghana-man could work
Send him to Europe, Australia, Asia or America
There he would break his back for you
There he would die working for you
He would even work double shifts for you
There is nothing that he wouldn't do for you
That's why the Whiteman smiles when he sees a Ghana-man
Not because he loves the Ghana-man so
It's because the Whiteman could afford to be lazy
When the Ghana-man comes to work





If you want to see a Ghana-man happy build him a church
There he would sing and dance for you
There he would empty his pockets for you
He would even dress up nicely for you
There is nothing that he wouldn't do for you
He would love his enemies in there for you
He would wash your feet as Jesus did to his disciples
But when the church is over
He would be back to his usual self
Selling his birthright for the Whiteman's mess of pottage






If you want to see how poor a Ghana-man could be
Give him gold
Give him silver
Give him oil
Give him bauxite
Give him Aluminum
Give him timber
Give him education
Give him independence
And he would still follow you with a beggar's cup in hand





If you want to see a Ghana-man create something for himself
Build him factories
Build him a hydroelectric dam in Akosombo
Set up state of the art laboratories in his country
Teach him how to do this
Teach him how to do that
Yet still he would get nothing made
He would import everything from the other man
Indeed-so sad
But oh so true
