Columnist: The Royal Enoch

Our Ancestor's Burden

I hold a delicate seed of secret in my hand
Come and I will plant it in you
It shall reveal itself in the eyes of your unborn children
But it shall not be spoken of
It would blossom in the wombs of your daughters
But it shall wither by the doings of your sons
Wisdom has long parted ways with a fool
Like a meaningful advise to a conceited heart
Surviving has left a people worn out
Their broken dreams buried under rocks of clay

The season of change has left many the same
Life's worries have grayed the hairs of our young men
The ocean waves beat on our shores pleadingly
They plead on behalf of mortal souls in search of life
They plead for sanity to prevail upon the land
Surely heaven must be awake by now
Because this nightmare of a dream isn't living
This unquestionable answer isn't satisfying
Perhaps God told a joke
And we mortals forgot to laugh amusingly

Our ancestor's burdens get heavier by the day
Because none has learned from their mistakes
They cry out from their tombs to deafened ears
They reveal themselves to blind eyes
Their footprints are dug out daily
But not to be retraced by their children's feet
Their life's work have been dis-continued
Their temple of knowledge has been forsaken
See their sons and daughters wobble in ignorance
With themselves clothed in linen made for ghosts

I wish that I could tell you what I have been told
I wish that I could show you what I have been shown
The morning would come to meet hands pounding on gravel
Some of us would still look on and marvel
Look at all this useless beauty
Look at all that we have
On this sacred land of ever shifting sands
Forgetfulness would soon make islands out of you and I
When it finally happens
Don't 4get to remember that I told you so
