Ghana: Stand Up For Your Security!!!

It is about time Ghana stood up for the security of her territory and citizenry!!! Unsurprisingly, the domestic culture of ‘Me Mpe Mehoasem’, where the household indiscriminately fail to protect her own, has not spared the national attitude of mother Ghana toward the security of her own children. This attitude is where a child of the household gets punished on top, even as he comes home crying apparently because somebody beat him up out there in the neighborhood. Mostly, the crime of the child for getting punished again by the parent is in the following quote: ‘Why were you there at that moment; or why did you go there in the first place, didn’t I tell you to always stay home?’ Fortunately or unfortunately if the child happens to be the winner of even a fight of contemporaries, he does not escape punishment either; and the question posed is: Why did you beat up that woman’s son? All this for the sake of neighborly peace, even though as a kid one felt unjustly unprotected. This attitude has in no doubt kept our nation from suffering the internal strives (at least not on large scale civil conflicts) that most African countries have suffered and continue to suffer.

However, when the same attitude is adopted on the national level, it then becomes very worrisome and disheartening. I do not know of any proud Ghanaian yet than myself (not even Nkrumah, haha…haha…), but when it comes to how lackadaisical, and the unconcerned attitude of Ghana in protecting her own citizenry, then I must confess before God and man, that I wished I were American (may God forgive though). America protects, by hook or crook, her own interests and that of her citizenry irrespective of the case, but Ghana, (since I was born) has always looked to the interests of others by neglecting her own, not only in security matters, but in other areas as well.

Security Outside of Ghana It is very disheartening that after all the millions of cedis that the Ghanaian citizenry spend on foreign missions yet there is no wind of any kind of protection for the Ghanaian in foreign lands. Talk of the atrocities that Ghanaians have suffered even just in our own West African sub-region, after all the brotherliness, hospitality and refuge we have given and continue to give, even to people as far as from the Sudan; and yet our governments, from PNDC to NPP, have never deemed it fit even to query any nation, from South Africa to Libya to the Gambia, concerning any unwarranted atrocities meted to non-threat posing Ghanaians. Some recent cases in point are the dismal treatment of the Gambian massacre and the case of the MP for Nkoransa. The Ghanaian government has, according to reports, coercively signed a lopsided accord with the US government, where any, even half human American, could come to Ghana and trade in child sex, pornography, narcotic drug or even bomb Ghana (I mean, commit any crime under the sun), and would be safely put on plane by the Ghanaian government back home to free America! How come Ghana can not demand for the expatriation of a full blooded MP of even the government in power, irrespective of his alleged crime? Isn’t it a disgrace for Ghana? Mr. President, how do you feel about this whole thing? Don’t you have laws and prisons for your citizens even as the bully American government thinks she does? Is what is good for Bush not equally nice for Kufuor?

The most saddening of all, concerning the attitude of Ghana towards her citizenry’s security outside, is when you are in some sort of trouble or need and you visit a Ghanaian mission or embassy for assistance, say you lost your papers in the situation, and after calling out your name and stating your case in a Ghanaian language, the official concerned, your own brother or sister Ghanaian, looks in the face and insensitively and shamelessly spit it in your sorry face that you are not a Ghanaian, just because you could not produce the paper for which you have come for assistance; and according to that shameful corrupt official anybody could learn and speak any language (Holy One of Israel have mercy). My dear brothers and sisters, tell me, when your fellow Ghanaian approaches you, know matter where he/she comes from, won’t you be able to recognize him/her? I bet that about 80% percent of the time, I can even smell my fellow Ghanaian far off without any interaction whatsoever. I want to tell every Ghanaian and especially the government, that some of our foreign missions are rotten of inhumane hardcore corruption. The canker of the ‘connection man’ operates outside as well with some of our foreign missions. Some reported case of corruption is when some Libyan Ghanaian ‘hustlers’ had their thousands of dollars stolen by the same Ghanaian Libyan mission which had advised them to bring their monies for safekeeping around the late 90s. The stupid lie given by the mission was that the monies were stolen by thieves from the high security mission premises. Even granted so, was the state not supposed to have reimbursed the people? There are also strong allegations about one high commissioner, Mr. Tamakloe of Romania, who not only is said to be blatantly corrupt, but disrespectful and undiplomatic as well towards the officials and citizenry of his host countries. I call on the government as a Ghanaian citizen to immediately set a commission to permanently monitor our foreign missions, giving special and immediate attention to places of complaints.

Security Inside of Ghana For a long time, since the days of NDC up to now, I can not understand for a second why government have failed to deal with the menace of the nomadic Fulanis destroyers. These people who have refused to adapt to modern day settled living have been and continue to be a great menace to development, peace and security. From Kenya to Sudan across the Sahara, this kind of people continues to wreck havoc. Their likes are the Janjadwees (forgive my spelling) of the Sudanese genocide. In Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Chad, Central African Republic Mali and across the Sahara, these cattle rearing nomads have and continue to spit hell fire on states and people. They only leave in their trails destruction of human lives, lands and properties. I ask all Ghanaians and the government why we are playing with fire by our lackadaisical attitude toward this menace.

I call on the ministers of defense and internal national security, and the commissioner of police to prove their mettle by making this Fulani menace scorched earth by fire immediately. A communiqué must be sent immediately to all concerned countries where these Fulani killers and pests come from to warn them not to step in Ghana again. I believe they will not heed, so the government must be ready to impound all their cattle, and sell them to compensate the people and the state for the losses and suffering we have received from these selfish and heartless people; and send them out just as a warning. After that the security forces must be prepared for war with these senselessly violent war-mongers. The government must not misapply ineffective internal law procedures to these people because they are foreign aggressors and must be dealt with accordingly. If there is any law, then the law says all external aggressors must ‘scorched earth by fire’.

I call on the peoples of the affected areas as well to have contingency measures in place in case the state fails to protect them. In that case they must protect themselves by all means necessary once and for all; or they will never sleep; and after that advice themselves by the use of the ‘thumb’ come 2008. I’m not recommending the NDC, for they were the first to have failed with this Fulani menace; and they themselves are even a worse menace in themselves than the Fulanis in every way. In fact they are a bunch of sanguine terrorists who hate peace, freedom and justice, where the truth has the effect on them like insecticide has on mosquitoes. They must change their ways (that is if they can) or they themselves will scorched earth with fire. I’m praying for the day when the unrepentant ones will meet the wrath of the Most High with their talk of violence, coups. May all their bad wishes and trappings turn on them, for they are more of a threat to our every well-being than even any internal or external aggressor. Their heads are full of cannibalistic blood. As for them, I leave for the good Judge, Yahweh Elyon to deal with.

The police and the courts are also to ensure that internal armed robbers scorch fire or rot in jail respectively, because they are no less a treat than even foreign aggressors. The Ghanaian society is due praise and honor for the way they co-operative with the police in dealing with such social cankers as thieves and robber. They must however, extend that attitude to our public offices and places of work in dealing with the social white-collar menace popularly known as corruption, because it is as security threat even as the violence of the Fulanis and the armed robbers. Therefore, if any of us is a culprit with regards to any kind of corruption, we must put a stop to that immediately in order not to take part in nation-wrecking.

Conclusion

It is about time that Ghana started protecting her own, even as she protects others both at home and around the world. This means the government must make both the internal and external security a priority as well. Other than that the current vigorous economic security she is seeking for Ghanaians could not be peaceably enjoyed; and could be wrecked down overnight as well by these internal and external aggressors. It is about time Ghanaians are also made to feel proud and secured by the sense of protection the government of the day gives the citizenry in abroad as well. Ghanaian lives in foreign lands must begin to be worth something by way of stopping other countries from taking Ghanaian lives with impunity. Internally, all citizenry must participate in every good way to ensure our peace and security. For together we stand. Forward for ever! God bless our homeland Ghana. Amen!
