Letter From The President: Honours for cheap?

Countrymen and women, loyalists and opponents, once again,

I have messed up and it is with a lot of sadness that I write to inform you of the silly thing I have done. It all has to do with the recently introduced National Honours Day. I believe that setting aside a day each year to recognize and honour Sikaman citizens is a step in the right direction. I will always pat myself on the back for that decision. I hope that it helps end the “pull him down” syndrome that afflicts a lot of people in this country. We need to start celebrating our heroes and so I hope that whoever comes after me will not decide to scrap it for any stupid reason.

We observed the first Honurs Day last week and at a plush ceremony we gave out medals to those who deserve them. Unfortunately, looking back on the events of the day, I think we also gave out medals to people who do not deserve them at all.
