Where Is The Compensation Claims Paid For Akosombo Lands

Red Alert: Where Is The Compensation Claims Paid For Akosombo Lands By The Government Of Ghana

The recent revelation of the payment of 580 billion cedis to Mr. Alfred Woyome was a blessing in disguise for the people in the Asuogyman District because this action has lead to unravelling the activities certain fraudulent miscreants who have taken advantage of the 20 years old chieftaincy dispute to process a 200 billion cedis compensation meant for Akosombo lands belonging to the Akwamu State.

PriorityGH, a non-governmental organisation commissioned a study of the Auditor General report interestingly the organisation was alarmed by the quantum of money paid as compensation for lands government acquired to build the Akosombo Dam, amounting to about ¢200 billion Cedis .

Having detected the payment, PriorityGH, decided to commission an investigation into the matter. The organisation contacted the Member of Parliament for Asuogyman, Hon. Jose Asare Akoto and the Chief of Apaaso, and the Ag. President of the Akwamu Traditional Council.

The MP agreed that he led a group of people to process the payment of the compensation claims by the government.

However, the Chief of Apaaso, Nana Otieku, informed his subjects that 4billion cedis were the amount of compensation paid by the government of Ghana.

The Acting President and some of the chiefs in the Akwamu Traditional Area claims have to answer the following question?

1. Who gave the MP of Asuogyaman the mandate to go and process the compensation.

2. Since 25 February 2010 why have the chiefs of the Akwamu Traditional kept mute over the compensation claims paid by the government

3. Whose accounts was the 200 billion cedis deposited

4. How many people benefitted from the compensation paid by the government of Ghana.

5. What was the role of the Acting President, the Queenmother and the Registrar in the whole compensation saga.

Akwamus have poor school and basic infrastructure problems which seriously need to be addressed and that PriorityGH feels that those chiefs who have ripped the citizenry should be made to suffer for their criminal conduct.

The leadership of PriorityGH are appealing to Government to investigate the payment of the compensation paid to the MP of Asuogyaman constituency and some chiefs from the Akwamu Traditional Council on 25 February 2010.
