Where Did Ghana Come From? – Part 1

The Ghanaian electorate will go to polls on Friday, December 7th 2012 to elect leaders who will be given the mandate to manage the affairs of the country for the next four years, in a manner that will ensure the maximum welfare of the majority of the people.
The December 7th elections will be the twelveth since we attained nationhood. Those elections were held in 1951, 1954 and 1956 where the well organized grassroot CPP beat the (NLM). 1951 which the NPP represent today in a landslide.
The first elections were held in 195. Unfortunately, after 55 years of independence (inspite of the best efforts put in place by the various administrations) both constitutional and military, the conditions of life and standard of living of many Ghanaians are not the BEST AT ALL.
In this article, I will conduct a brief survey of the political development of Ghana and explain the reason why we cannot form a type of government which will ensure a faster development of the country and at the same time foster a greater sense of belonging for the populace to ensure NATIONAL COHESION and PEACE.
Before the British colonial Rule, the various ethnic groups in the country from North to South, and from East to West, employed the chieftaincy model to govern themselves and it was the BEST TYPE OF TRADITIONAL GOVERNMENT in the then Gold Coast. Why? There was respect for our elders among all the ethnic groups. (2) There was discipline, (3) there was God fearing among the tribes (4) there was truth (5) There was proper up bringing of children (6) The extended family system was working perfectly (7) there was communal spirit (8) there was peace and national cohesion (9) there was total unity and (10) peaceful co-existence.
An essential feature of this form of government is that decisions were arrived at on the basis of consensus. Today, women can have sex with their fellow women and call themselves Lesbians. Western values are being forced on Africans through our leaders, so we must adopt Positive Defiance by quietly eliminating all known Lesbians and Gays in our midst to avoid public outcry and so-called human rights issues exported to us by the blue eyed long noses from the Western countries. If we unite and eliminate those barbaric creatures from our midst, God will richly bless us because most of the Prophets of God were murderers before preaching the word of God. If we obey these rich foreign leaders, we would be selling our nation for a mess of potage and therefore betraying God who created Heaven and Earth. No way, let’s eliminate the Gays and Lesbians quietly all over Africa now. This is a vision from God to me, so I speak in confidence and without fear or favour whatsoever. Such nonsense, take your dollars and pounds sterlings. Animals are even wiser than Gays and Lesbians. Today, one can insult his father or mother in the name of a so-called Western democracy, Today a man can have sex with his fellow man, in the name of Human Rights. Since Ghana attained independence on 6th March, 1957, we have had 12 political administrations comprising six constitutional administrations and six military administrations. The six constitutions include the Convention Peoples Party led by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah 1951-1966 (2) The Progress Party led by Dr. K.A. Busia – 1969-1972. People’s National Party – by Dr. Hilla Limann 1979 – 1981. The National Democratic Congress led by Flt. Lt. J. J. Rawlings 1993 – 2001, New Patriotic Party – led by John Agyekum Kufour 2001 – December 2008 and the National Democratic Congress led by Prof. John Evans Atta Mills – January 9, 2009 - 2013 if God permits.
The six military Administrations include the National Liberation Council which liberated Nobody but themselves from 24th Feb. 1966 to September 1969 and was led by General E.K. Kotoka and Brigadier A.A. Afrifa.
The National Redemption Council which also redeemed nobody but themselves from January 13th 1972 and was renamed the Supreme Military Council 1 and 2 to June 4 1979.
The Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC) which came with a clear vision of Accountantability, Probity, Anti-corruption in both high and low places, it was so decisive and very brutal from June 4, 1979 to September 1979 and Ghana’s sinking image in the eyes of the international community was again restored BY FORCE and at once.
Ordinary Ghanaians were empowered to stand up for their rights by questioning authority. Not satisfied with the corruption, lies, deceit, smuggling and the very nation wrecking activities which the June 4 Uprising came to correct and sweep away. The Provisional National Defence Council (P.N.D.C) led by the same man, Flt. Lt. J.J. Rawlings struck again, but this time, he came with a price loaded revolution to end all coups in Ghana from 31st December 1981 to January 1993 and eventually became a civilian President of the Republic of Ghana for 8 solid years until he left office on January 6th 2000 but still sound, kicking and flying high.
Therefore, believe it or not, Take it or leave it, Hate him or love him, Jerry John Rawlings entered the political scene as the WORST DICTATOR Africa have ever had and left political office in January 2001 as THE BEST DEMOCRAT Ghana have ever had nationwide and ACROSS THE GLOBE – we are yet to see any world leader who will follow his footsteps or even surpass him. May God Richly Bless Him.
To date, we have had over 30 good years of constitutional rule and close to 22 years of military rule, where have we really come from? Have we learnt any lessons? Have our lives been improved? Are we proud of our achievements for the past 55years of nationhood in the various types of governments mentioned above and where are we now in 2012? You keep your fingers crossed, I shall return in part 2 of this master piece. Is anybody listening? I am done. “Jaanbie Iwaii” Aluta Continued!
