THE STATESMAN

"Akwasi Agyeman assaults KMA Cashier", is the headline of an inside page story in the Statesman. The story says the beleagured Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Nana Akwasi Agyeman last Wednesday 'threw decency to the dogs' and assaulted the Chief Cashier of KMA, Mr Obiri Yeboah for failing to act promptly on his request for money. The Statesman quoting sources close to the KMA, says the severe beating handed out to Mr Obiri Yeboah has greatly embarrassed the KMA. The paper says its investigations have revealed that last Wednesday around 10 p.m., Nana Agyeman went to pick the cashier to the office and requested for four million cedis to enable him to meet certain financial obligations. The Statesman says that was not the accepted practice, the cashier requested Nana Agyeman to issue an I.O.U. to cover the money. The Statesman says this simple request infuriated the Metropolitan Chief Executive who felt he had been slighted by the cashier, and ''before one could say Jack, he was all over the poor man". According to the paper, the cashier has written to the Accountant-General's Department for transfer from the KMA following Nana Agyeman's behaviour towards him. GRi
