The five-member committee set up by the Electoral Commission, to review the country’s register of voters, is expected to release its recommendations by the end of the month.

The register has been the subject of controversy for the past few months. The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has led calls for the compilation of a new roll.

Addressing Parliament last week, Electoral Commission chair, Charlotte Osei, said the EC will state its position as soon as the recommendations are released.

She said: “We have listened to some submissions from all the stakeholders, we set up a panel, the panel listened at a public forum, the panel has subsequently called all the political parties and stakeholders and had one-on-one engagement, in depth, with them.”

She said the EC has investigated all the allegations made by the NPP, adding that it is only fair the NPP becomes the first body to be served with the recommendations, once they are released, since they brought the petition to the EC.

Mrs. Osei also revealed the EC invited two independent experts on the biometric voter system, from outside the country, to conduct some analysis on the data and the entire system.

She said, as soon as the EC gets the recommendation at the end of the month, from the five-member committee, they would also make their position on it public.
