Tema and Kumasi cheapest for used cars, research shows

Carmudi compares average car prices across Ghana’s cities

How do Ghanaian cities and regions differ in used car prices? In the first decade of the 2000s, the Customs, Excise and Preventive Service have reported up to 70,000 used cars being imported to this West African country per year. A decade long surge would have resulted in a wide variety of four-wheeled vehicles for Ghana’s growing consumer class.

In order to find best places for used car purchases, Carmudi, the safest way to sell or buy your vehicle online, researched regional cars sales for models from 2000 to 2014, focusing on locations with more than a hundred listings.

Throughout Ghana, it is in the industrial area of Tema potential buyers can find cars at most competitive prices. In this South-Eastern, industrial city, the average cost of a pre-owned car stands at 8,100 Ghanaian cedis. Tema is followed by Kumasi; the financial capital of Ashanti region, which boasts of a slightly higher price of vehicles at 13,450 GHS.

The capital Accra, on the other hand, is where the potential car buyer can find the biggest variety of car listings, more than Tema and Kumasi combined. The largest city in Ghana however is also the most expensive one for vehicle purchases, with a mean price of over 21,500 cedis.

Interested used car buyers in Ghana can look online for help in comparing prices across regions and by dealer for their next purchase. Using Carmudi's online portal has helped thousands of buyers to locate their dream car without leaving home.
