Stop the thief ot time

STOP THE THIEF OT TIME!

Procrastination, they say is a thief of time. Procrastination is postponing an activity or what needs to be done now to a later date. There are a lot of reasons for procrastination. Procrastination looks very simple and easy to do but one must know the disadvantages overweigh the advantages. Most African immigrants in New York especially the Bronx are caught up in academic procrastination. This attitude of procrastination have affected our children. The African immigrants have countless numbers of reason for not going to school or reaching out to attain their full potential and fulfil their dreams.

There are several reasons why these immigrants although have opportunity to move on in life but chooses to procrastinate:

a. We have more time – People/students procrastinate because they realize they have more time. Immigrant student gets to the United States and thinks they have more time. They decide to do some job and make some money before starting school. Later they realized there is no more time and years catches up on them. They either drop from school and continue in two or more jobs which is often times difficult and more stressful

b. Laziness and reluctant – some immigrant become lazy and reluctant and always postpone their plans and activities. Postponing is not a solution to laziness. Every year our own brothers and sisters from the diaspora goes to school by verbal commitment only. Reluctant in the sense that ‘I do not want to go to school because it might be a difficult process

c. The loads of the assignment – most of our immigrants are working whiles they go to school. The load school work and job often frightens them and make them loose focus. This assignment is going to take three hours, you begin to think and then conclude that ‘I will not have time continuously for this work’. Due to the hours involved, you then procrastinate doing the whole assignment and the consequence are obvious. They drop out of school to chase after the dollar or Euro.

Many people especially student from our African Continent are having it difficult to combine their jobs and school. As you are reading this article right now, you have something you have been postponing for a while. It might be school, business, project, assignment that needs to be done. Stop the thief of time before it stops you.
