Kade, Sept 25, GNA - Teachers in some parts of the Kwaebibirem District are on strike since Thursday to press home their demand for improved salary levels.
They are calling on the government to abide by an earlier agreement between the Central Management Board and the Joint Consultative Forum on new salary increases for teachers, nurses, civil servants and workers of the judicial service.
A visit to some schools at Kade and Adankrono by the District Chief Executive, Mr Yaw Yiadom-Boakye, and the Presiding Member, Mr George Aboagye yesterday, showed that the pupils were at school but their teachers were not at post.
Schools visited at Kade included Presbyterian Primary and JSS, L/A Primary and Methodist Primary School.
At Adankrono all schools were closed but teachers at Kusi and Takrowase were however were at school teaching. The DCE and the Presiding Member appealed to them to continue to work since the Ghana National Association of Teachers had not declared any strike action.
At Akwatia, teachers were at a meeting and there were indications that they will also be joining their striking colleagues. Teachers in other districts such as Birim South, West Akyem, Akuapem North and parts of the Afram Plains have already embarked on the industrial action.
