NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY

NPP Statement on so-called crises in Ashanti Region. After persistent reports in the media of a so called crisis in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, representatives of all the groups mentioned as involved in the alleged crisis were invited to a meeting at the Party's head office on Tuesday, October 7, '97. Mr.. Peter Ala Adjetey, National Chairman, led the national officers and selected members of the council of Elders at the meeting which was attended by a delegation from the Ashanti Region NPP Chairmen's Association and 1992 and 1996 Flagbearers, Prof. A. Adu Boahen and Mr.. J.A. Kufuor, respectively. It became clear during the meeting that what was nothing more than normal group misunderstandings were blown out of all proportions by a few unscrupulous individuals and fed to the media. The meeting discussed these thoroughly. The NPP wishes to state categorically that the so-called crisis has been resolved and assures its swarming supporters in both the Ashanti Region and the rest of the country that the Ashanti regional congress, scheduled for Saturday, October 25, 1997. will be held in an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity. The Party assures the public that every party member will accept the results of the elections to be held at the Congress and calls on supporters to remain steadfast in their commitment to helping the Party win in 2000. Those NPP members who plan to foment trouble either because they are agents of other political interests or because they want to further their political ambitions at the expense of the NPP must take note that they will face drastic sanctions if they do not desist from such nefarious activities. As for the enemies of the Party, their intrigues and machinations will be in vain. Other officers who attended the meeting included Madam Ama Bame Busia, National 3rd Vice Chairman, Mr.. J. Agyenim-Boateng, General Secretary and Hon. Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, National Treasurer. Others were Mr.. R.R. Amponsah, Chairman, Elders Council, Mr.. Saki Scheck, Mr.. K.A. Coleman-Paitoo and Mr..
