Columnist: Afag Ghana

SSNIT boss & BOG governor must resign

In the wake of Ghana’s most gruesome transaction, the Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) is shocked to learn that, an unsigned statement from Fortiz Equity Fund limited has been issued notifying the public of its 90% shares acquisition in Merchant Bank Ghana. This action by these public institutions goes contrary to the spirit and letter of the law in the face of the court granting an interim injunction restraining the sale to fortiz.
It must be put on record that, in spite of the availability of evidence, the forceful sale of 90% shares at USD 41.09 million USD to Fortiz can best be described as an act against common sense. The SSNIT boss and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana have thus, done the unthinkable. Not only have these men betrayed Ghanaians, they have condoned and connived with these financial engineers to forcefully acquire public assets for private interest. We don’t expect these “greedy” and “unconscionable” bastards to do anything better for Ghana.
The SSNIT boss, Mr. Ernest Thompson and BOG Governor, Dr. Henry Kofi Wampah are of no use to the Ghanaian. They have devalued their learned selves and will forever regret this transaction till their days on earth are exhausted. Surely! No government have lived in perpetuity, the day of reckoning will come, at that time, you will be alone to face the wrath of the citizen for engaging in this evil transaction.
Mr. President, because your hands are soiled in this transaction, AFAG would want to put it on record that, you have failed to relieve these men off their post.
Mr. Ernest Thompson, SSNIT Boss and the Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Henry Kofi Wampah must resign if they have moral conscience. These men have gone against equity!
Country Men, Colonel Feli died for just a loan of 50,000 cedis from the Bank. What is good for the goose is equally good for the Gander. We must use all civil rights and might to rise up to the challenge. We must protect the Public Purse, Protect our investment and demand value for money in all dealings.
AFAG, hence have commenced our crusade against the wrongful, illegal and illogical acquisition of Merchant Bank.
Looking forward to our press conference next week
God save Ghana!
