Oh! Prez Mahama; Too Late To Rescue Epileptic Energy Sector

The Crystal Clear Lens Editorial

Over the weekend, the President of Ghana, H.E John Dramani Mahama, began something that resembles an attempt to rescue the Ghana's energy sector that has over the past few years under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) led government cause a lot of pains and disappointments to the people of Ghana.

The President who left such a sensitive sector unwatched is now realising that all is not well with the sector that is undoubtedly the sole and body of every nation. Yes! He has now woken up to the reality that there has been a huge sabotage of his government on that sector to cause disaffection for the government and the party for political points towards the 2016 general elections.

Never in the history of this country have Ghanaians experienced erratic and unrealistic power crisis than we have done in the past three years of the NDC administration. Since 2012, the crisis has gone from the act of God, to low water level to broken down transformers.

Every day, Ghanaians are told of a different excuse or reason why we cannot get uninterrupted power supply to feed our homes and industries. Many small businesses have collapsed. Many youth have been rendered jobless as a result of the epileptic power supply to Ghanaians.

Ghana touts itself of being a middle income country, yet your government and appointees in the energy sector have woefully failed to give Ghanaians power that is essential in ensuring that we sustain our new found status is not available.

The Bui Dam, which was also expected to augment the Akosombo Dam, has also become a white elephant or as some people referred to a standby generator. We cannot continue to pay lip service to the basic of needs of Ghanaians and expect them to be optimistic.

It is said that every misfortune is a blessing, any serious government going through this power crisis, will have recognized that there was obviously something deadly wrong with the people manning the sector. Sabotage from opponents should have been the suspect considering the kind of Opposition it has as party in government seeking re-elections.

Many especially NDC loyalists felt sad that the President slept off on that sector and has now woken up only after a permanent damage has been caused. There is nothing the President can do now to salvage the energy sector. Period! He left his pot of food on fire unwatched and the result is burnt food.

Some of the President's Ministers, do not have what it takes to head a Ministry, the result of their incompetence is what we are all witnessing now.

The President has left well-meaning Ghanaians wondering whether the party , the NDC that brought him into power has no men capable of helping to steer the affairs of the nation especially the energy sector, even when things are getting out of hand.

On the energy sector, people the President put in trust have caused him to lie times without number to Ghanaians yet he kept them till now.

The Gas Pipeline that is suppose to stop us from flaring the gas and to enable us generate electricity has also stalled, because authorities failed to do the right thing.
Ghanaians are tired of these unworkable policies of the government.
