NDC vs. NPP, Which is better 'Evil'? – Part I

At a point in time when (NDC was in power and NPP in Opposition), I was tempted to believe that NDC was good for nothing, by courtesy of NPP negative propaganda. But now I know. Former President Rawlings was damn right when he called them (NPP) THIEVES and LIARS who came to power based on falsehood and absolute lies.

Below I outlined some of the “allege sins” that NPP bitterly accused NDC of but which they (NPP) have committed on far a larger scale with a scale factor of 8 or more. After these I would drawn my conclusion and leave it to the good people of Ghana to decide come Dec 2008.

NPP alleges that PNDC/NDC abducted and killed 4 Supreme Court Judges and an Army Major. PNDC/NDC, at least, was able to prosecute one Amartey for those crimes.

NPP murdered Ya Na and 40 of his subjects and not a single soul was taken to task for these gruesome, senseless murders. NPP murdered Alhaji Mobilla in Police custody and no one has being held accountable.

NDC introduced VAT at 15% to raise more revenue for development. NPP when to Scancem/Ghanacem to collect bribes to organize Kumi Preko (led by Akufo Addo, who wants to be President now). Dictators as they call NDC, they listened to their voices and reduced VAT to 10%. Now NPP has not only welcomed VAT but has also increased it to 17% and are enjoying the proceeds. What an irony! When the then NDC President’s wife Nana Konadu bought less than a $1000 Jacuzzi (in the US a Jacuzzi costs as low as $200 in Home Depot and Lowe’s) for health reasons, NPP cried foul. But when NPP came to power, within one week the NPP President renovated his private residence with an undisclosed amount of Cheque from SSNIT and in less than a year the NPP President’s son (chief or whatever he calls himself) was able to buy a Hotel for more than $3,500,000 (scale factor of more than 3500 as compared to Konadu’s Jacuzzi) and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

When Tsatsu Tsikata’s GNPC guaranteed a 2.3 Billion loan for Valley Farms, a viable business venture GNPC chose to undertake, he was dragged to court for causing financial loss to the State. Now Ghana Govt has guaranteed a 4 Billion loan for Kwamena Bartels’s daughter and son-in-law and a $3.5 Million (about 30 Billion Old GH Cedis) loan for Kufuor’s son (of the infamous Hotel Kufuor saga) and that is perfectly ok.

When NDC increased fuel price to 6,400 Old GHC/gallon, the then candidate Kufuor was on all political platforms holding a gallon of petrol. The same Kufuor, now President Kufuor, has increased fuel prices to 43,000 Old GHC/gallon.

When NDC was divesting some non performing state enterprises, NPP was crying wolf saying we are selling our “birth right”, “re-colonizing ourselves” etc. Infact although I was in college (university of Ghana) at the time, I thought divestiture was a grievous crime against the nation. Now NPP is selling everything Ghanaian, including ADB and Ghana Telecom (for a paltry $500M), after collapsing Ghana Airways (because the then NPP transport minister had been dipping his long fingers into the Ghana Airways coffers to “bonk for Ghana”), JTL etc

NPP has almost doubled its ministerial portfolios as compared to NDC’s, for the same “small country, Ghana” as they were saying.

Getting to the latter part of Rawlings’ administration, he made some few foreign trips to woo potential investors into the country. NPP was crying “cat and dog” about his foreign trips. Now what do we see, President Kufuor used two-thirds of his entire presidency for traveling and infact I just heard that his name is going into the Guinness Book of Records for the most traveled leader of a HIPC country, beating his own man Obassanjo at it. During Rawlings’ travels he takes $300 as per Diem per day spent outside the country.

Now Kufuor takes more than $3000 per diem per day spent outside the country (a scale factor of more than 10). Waow!! Mr. Benneh, a Diplomatic Attaché at Ghana Embassy in Switzerland was arrested with very minute quantity of drugs during the NDC era and NPP termed him an NDC drug pin. Infact I learnt Mr. Benneh had never been a card-bearing member of NDC, just a mere Ghanaian serving his nation when the incident occurred Now NPP is known worldwide as the “Narcotic Peddlers Party (Cocaine Party of the Century)” with a cocaine representative (Mr. Eric Amoateng) languishing in New York jail.

Fellow Ghanaians WAKE UP and keep your Eyes wide Open!!! And stay tuned for the next episode!!!
