Africa’s self-acclaimed Minister of Happiness, Funke Akindele, has made a startling revelation. In an interview with CNN’s Larry Madowo, shared on Instagram on 27 October 2026, she offered a glimpse into the emotional struggles she faces away from the spotlight.
Is this a joke? I thought Funke was in charge of happiness! Yet, her candid revelation reminds us of Solomon’s conclusion: worldly pursuits cannot provide lasting fulfilment (Eccl. 2:1–11). Whether it is laughter, money, work, relationships, or personal achievements, none can satisfy the deepest longings of the human heart.
Meanwhile, many people envy others and wish they could live their lives. But appearances can be deceptive. As Paul declares, “Let God be true but every man a liar” (Rom. 3:4). Scripture repeatedly reminds us that the world and its desires are passing away (1 John 2:17). Therefore, we should not mistake another person’s outward success for inward peace.
God offers us something deeper than fleeting happiness: joy rooted in Him. This joy does not mean the absence of sorrow or emotional struggles. Rather, it is the confidence and peace we can have in God even amid life’s troubles, knowing that He remains faithful (Phil. 4:6–7; Rom. 15:13).
But how can we obtain this joy? Through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Sin has separated humanity from God, and we cannot save ourselves through our own efforts (Rom. 3:23; Eph. 2:8–9). In His love, God sent His Son to die for our sins. Jesus took our place on the cross, making reconciliation with God possible. Through faith in Him, we can receive forgiveness and the joyful hope of everlasting life (Rom. 5:8; John 3:16).
Would you like to experience this lasting joy?
✔️ Believe in Jesus Christ (Rom. 10:9–10).
✔️ Repent of your sins (Acts 2:38).
✔️ Confess Him as Lord (Rom. 10:9–10).
✔️ Be baptised for the forgiveness of your sins (Acts 2:38; Acts 22:16; 1 Pet. 3:21).
✔️ Be added by the Lord to His church (Acts 2:47).
✔️ And continue to walk faithfully in the new life He gives (Rom. 6:4; Rev. 2:10).
Enjoy the grace of God.
Amen.
