Letter To Atta Mills

Sunday 7 March 2010

DEAR ATTA,

How are your eyes, I mean how is your health generally? Atta I really want to tell you in the face that it is time to get serious with the work you have been assigned to do by the good p
eople of this country on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Perhaps you are not aware that you have managed to create a crisis of confidence for your administration and for that matter weakened the chances of the NDC to be retained as the next government. What are you up to?It is very clear that you have disappointed a lot of your followers at this stage of your tenure and IT IS TIME TO GET SERIOUS.

Your name is John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills and you now occupy the chair of the presidency of the Republic of Ghana, a country with sterling democratic credentials which will compel all the powerful men in the world to come down for a visit: but it seems you are not ready. The clique at the presidency and yourself are a joke.
You just don’t know what they are about.
Atta,(I don’t mean the mortuary man) you are a career educationalist and perhaps an accomplished one: the value you have added to your profession is that you are an educator as well, but your thinking and the application of methods of your presidency is about theories and clichés.
Dude this is not a smart move and you know that. You are a man of high morals because of your religious background, but don’t kid orfull yourself that the presidency is about morals. Is far from what you think and that’s why your opponents always laughat you. They know you are a joke from the way you go about managing and running this country, it has nothing to do with been slow but sure, it’sa simple case of you having no balls.
I have heard from high ranking members of the NDC that you have managed to bring in failed characters, political prostitutes and disgraced allies to interfere in the management of the NDC’s committees and structures. If that is true, then that’s a miscalculated move. You know why, because these are people who don’t appeal to the party’s ordinary supporters. They are not a Jerry Rawlings and will never be.
Atta your efforts to sideline Jerry will also cost you.
I heard it was you Atta in a secret move with the Kojo T’s and the Ahoiws brought the failed old guns such as the captain Buta’s and Totobi Quarkye’s of the party to run the affairs of the AKATAMANSO on the various committees and directorates to sideline the founder. You have still not learnt your lesson and it’s a pity that you think you can do without Papa Jey and Nana Konadu.
Anyways what are you scared of? That you will not be confirmed overwhelmingly as the party’s flag bearer for 2012? Is that why you want your Team “B” people on the various committees and directorates to safeguard you interests? That’s why; but you WILL never succeed because they like yourself do not know what you are about. Like I told you earlier on you have failed that is WHY you are scared of what will happen to you before and after 2012. Let me tell you why you have woefully failed.
Atta, since educators like yourself admire the past to be able to teach in the present, let me give you a bit of the past to hit the ground running and not to be slow but fast and sure.
I was not amused at all by your recent state of the Nation Address in parliament. You once again failed to give any policy directions. You failed to tell us why you have not put any monies in our pockets; you failed to tell us why the FUEL PRICE, your number one item on your campaign agenda was not attained.
Let me quote what you said on the campaign trail ".the present government has failed to reduce the price of fuel even though the international price per barrel of oil has reduced (it was from $145 per barrel to about $94.45 and was sold at the pumps in Ghana at 5.20 Cedi per gallon) when I Atta Mills come to power, I will transfer every reduction without consulting anybody". What have you done so far? Nothing.
You failed to touch on the basics relating to health at the time when the northern part of the country was facing an epidemic? You ignored so many issues of national concern and failed to provide Ghanaians with a realistic mechanism to alleviate their sufferings and you also failed to present a proper economic data on where the economy was heading towards. What’s wrong with you Atta? The presidency is not a joke, is about the lives of 22 million people.
According to some of your closest confidants, your delivery of the state of the nation address was a joke and a failure completely, and if they have their own way, will urge you to rather concentrate on building your expertise and competence with regards to your not so pro poor policies and to stop wastingyour time on how he NDC should be managed or run.
Atta, don’t allow people to think that you are not serious. Both the New Patriotic Party and Jerry’s National Democratic Congress, in handling the chronic problems of this nation, madegrievous mistakes by ceding seriousness to what they will make for themselves. But seriousness should be your salvation as president of this great nation. It means that if you win, you win with a meaning, if you lose, you lose with disgrace.
The first gives you a mandate ,upholding the trust Ghanaians reposed in you ,the second adds heft to your enemies who will beat their chest to say we :”we told you so”
Now let’s hit the ground running Atta. I am totally confused, maybe I shouldn’t, but you shocked me when I heard you swear in the party’s various committees and directorates, you had the time to do that? When in your recent state of the nation address you forgot and failed to tell us what measures have been used to address the outbreak of Cerebrospinal Meningitis in Northern Ghana? In what capacity did you do that? I never heard Jerry swear in committees neither was Kufuor, or did you?
Atta, it’s time to get serious. Is it true that you intentionally delayed to meet the NDC delegation for the swearing in ceremony? I heard it was because of Nana Konadu-the woman who rallied her 31st behind you? Huh?
Atta, the workers in your office have informed my good self and those who deserve to know that you kept the newexecutives of the party’s various committees and directorates for hours while you attended to opposition party operatives at the detriment of the party. I am asking you again, what is it because of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings whose husband Jerry is the founder of the Party on whose back you rode to power?
I spoke to some of her friends and they were not happy. Read what one of them said, “he’s already displaying his unrefined arrogance to the party, – why did he do that? Is it because of the former first lady because like her husband they’ve questionthe agenda of the Mills administration and its total lack of focus”.
“Most of these latter day saints NDC politicians like their mentor Atta Mills who have been undermining Jerry will be shocked and surprised if the man decides to form his own party, the lack of respect for Jerry will cause the NDC if they dare, they believe they can sideline the man? Mills must stop this keg of disrespect against the party’s founder immediately.
“Whether they agree or not it was the Rawlingses who defined their political careers and they must show respect”.
You may not agree with these assertions President Atta, but that is the feeling out there and is up to you and your cabal to sit up.
Contrary to the perception that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is more united now than before, I can confidently tell you that the ruling party is in deep leadership crisis as a result of strong disagreements over the party’s direction and future of which you Atta you are championing.
You should be very careful Atta, because your shameless soul of hypocrisy is being displayed as you seek to dictate the political future of the NDC.
So far you have performed abysmally and I want to ask you weather with such a poor performance in government you can even manage the committee(political committee)you selected yourself to chair and who will be the mediator assuming there was conflict since you Atta have already made yourself the chief mediator of the political committee.
Let me inform you quickly that it is worrying if at the fast rate of your dwindling confidence, youcan attend meetings and truly oversee the activities of the committees and directorates.
The former first lady has indirectly questioned your management capability to oversee the party’s structures. Let me just refreshed your memory;in a recent interview with the media Nana Konadu made it clear that you and the characters in THE SLOW BUT SURE MOVIE should stop scheming in order not to weaken the NDC party.
The former first lady in the interview emphasized: “In every country it is a party that holds up a government, not a government holding up a party. It’s never done anywhere.
So once the party structure is weak, we cannot then guide the government in areas that it should work hard and areas where it’s not doing too well, and we should be able to let our government know what the people are saying; it’s not what is in the newspapers, it’s not what people are saying on the TV, go to town…you don’t even have to walk far, and they will tell you a lot.
“I think that if the party is strong a lot of these things can be done to refocus where we want to go to and help our government in some of these areas. You need a strong party in order to have a strong government,” she told Myjoyonline.com.
According to aggrieved party insiders you are weakening the party rather than strengthening it and they are urging you to allow the structures of the party to function through the committees tasked to do so.
Atta, the party supporters know that you want to dictate through the 23 man committee who should be the next president, they are aware that you want to do this through failed characters like the Buta’s and the Fante confederacy led by the Ahoiws, but I urge you to stop, else what happened to you and your cronies at the Tamale congress isnear.
I will continue to complain through my letters until you have lived up to your PROMISES.
What has happened to all the numerous cases involving the activities of corrupt NPP officials and those in your regime? We know themAtta. They are busy pushing deals, but if you don’t act I can assure you that a democratic revolution is about to take place and it can consume you and your cabal.

Yours Truly,
Papa Asem
