Letter From The President: AMA Futility

Countrymen and women, loyalists and opponents,

I don?t know what you think about the recent exercise by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to ?flush out? traders from the central business district of the national capital. I know how I feel about it, though. I am not impressed at all. This exercise will not yield any good results. That?s the cold hard truth and the AMA should accept it in good faith.

I believe that the inhabitants of the national capital are most worried about the filth and the stench in the city. Very few are concerned with the invasion of the pavements in the central business district by traders. So what is the AMA doing chasing away helpless hawkers instead of ridding the city of filth? It?s a classical case of misplaced priorities and the AMA has proved over the years to be very good at misplacing its priorities. The AMA cannot convince me that getting the hawkers off the pavements is the first step towards a more comprehensive exercise to rid the city of filth, as I know they will try to argue.
