Kufuor Dares Betty

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s tantrums over the weekend that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government is full corruption, were meant to achieve a definite objective. He has dared the Atta Mills-led NDC government and the Minister of Justice & Attorney General to prove the allegations of corruption against his administration by the then opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Almost two years into the Mills government, the AG is yet to successfully prosecute any government official either on corruption or another charge. President Kufuor, like others, sees this as a justification for declaring his administration ‘not guilty’ of corruption. He thus decided to take the NDC government to the cleaners.

Mr Kufuor’s statement has been taken with a pinch of salt by the NDC, which has made various responses to the former President.

Corruption was a major issue raised in the last election by the NDC against the NPP government. This has raised public expectations that the perpetrators would be prosecuted and punished. Many members of the public are however at a loss as to why the alleged corrupt members of the Kufuor government still walk about as free men almost two years into the 4-year term of the government.

Mr Kufuor who at the time demanded the evidence of corruption agai st the members of his government in order to take action against such officials could however not provide any evidence to prove his allegation against those he is accusing today.

Mr Kufuor’s seeks to refer to the NDC government as rather corrupt in the absence of any successful prosecution of his government officials.
