Is NPP On A Steep Cliff?

Asks Margaret Jackson

October 5, 2015

For the past four months or so, the NPPs beleaguered flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has given Ghanaians a rare peek of how he will govern Ghana if voters mistakenly throw him the hat to form the next government in 2017.

Within this period, we have seen Akufo-Addo, consistently and judiciously demonstrating that he does not and will never tolerate people who consistently and judiciously do not allow him to walk over them.

Imagine such a character becoming the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces and President of our dear country. Fellow Ghanaians, you can only imagine. The machinations and infighting in the NPP rages on. And the man who is seeking to walk over the shoulders of the NPP folks to the corridors of power in Ghana looks on without caring a hoot about it.

It simply tells you that Akufo-Addo does not care who gets hurt or marginalized in the NPP since his onerous focus is nothing more than becoming President of Ghana. That is all what this man cares about. Just to add the presidency to his curriculum vitae before he passes on to eternity!

To say that the mudslinging in the NPP is unprecedented is an understatement. It is unbelievable. And the NDC folks cannot believe what they are seeing and hearing from the NPP quarters. The accusations, counter-thievery, disparagement, curses, corruption exposure within an opposition party that preaches virtues, tape recordings of perceived extortion of a government banking institution looking to float public shares, sheer insults, and a do-for-nothing lay-back flagbearer whose onerous aim is to walk to the presidency without sweat baffles many.

Imagine again if the NPP wins power in 2016. It will be a fighting galore between the biggest, bigger, and smaller elephants. And who suffers? The utmost sufferers would be Ghanaians who would be marginalized by the NPP to become mere by-standers!

In his extreme anxiety to win power come what may in 2016, Akufo-Addo has led the NPP folks onto a cliff and left them swinging, dancing, and hanging. Akufo-Addo thinks he can win it all without the support of some individuals in the NPP whom he perceives as enemies, and obstacle to his quest for power.

Nana Addo continues to claim that President Mahama has done nothing for Ghana, but in his so-called “Rise and Build” tour, he has used good roads, which were not there before 2012 in the Western, Brong Ahafo, Volta, Eastern, Northern, Upper East, and Upper West Regions. He saw water and power expansion to certain parts of the country. Yet, such a man continues to claim that he saw nothing good in Ghana and that he is the only one mandated (by whom?) to save the country.

All is not well within the NPP. And the sheer pettiness and greed, which these NPP folks have shielded from Ghanaians in order to portray that they are angles whose only desire is to save and build Ghana have exploded in their faces. Just look at the tapes that have emerged on Alex Ato Afenyo-Markin, MP for Effutu, who was using “legal gymnastics” to extort money from Agriculture Development Bank. This tells you that if we make the mistake and vote them to power they will definitely use “talking gymnastics” to loot the country.

The NPP is not a credible party to entrust the country with to rule! Issues coming from the NPP clearly demonstrate that they are not ready to rule, but simply pushing to rape the country clean when they get power. Look at the noise they are making about a new voter register and the bogus assertion of bloated voter list by Mahamadu Bawumia, the running mate of Akufo-Addo, who churns out numbers just to deceive Ghanaians.

If Bawumia indeed wanted Ghanaians to believe his bogus assertion on the so-called voter list, he should have begun his so-called analysis from the Ashanti and Eastern Regions, and possible from his home region. That is what he should have done to give credence to what he was doing. But you do not start from the Volta Region to claim that there are tons of Togolese on the voter list and promise that more is coming but one month on, we have heard nothing else.

Whom is Bawumia deceiving? I have a little advice for that young man! He would be torn apart if Akufo-Addo loses the 2016 election. Every Ghanaian should read my lips. Bawumia would be political history come 2016, because NPP will not blame Akufo-Addo alone for their mishaps. Bawumia would be dragged along and the NPP folks will never forgive him.

If the alarms raised by NPP’s Dr Kobina Arthur Kennedy last week that Akufo-Addo trusts “political foreigners” like Bawumia and Freddie Blay much more than people like NPP National Chair, Paul Afoko and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, is anything to go by then Bawumia should gird his loins.

There are many angry NPP people out there, who believe that Akufo-Addo has nothing good to offer the NPP than to destroy it. Some are saying that Akufo-Addo wants to go down with the NPP in 2016 and end up creating a huge power vacuum in the party come 2020.

Just imagine if Akufo-Addo loses 2016, which of course he will, who takes the party to 2020. Certainly, it would not be Alan Kyeremanteng! And Bawumia would be tripped and stripped. So who becomes their political warrior? Your guess may be close to mine.
