Trader Defrauds Tailor

HIS LORDSHIP V.C. Senu's circuit tribunal in Kumasi has granted a ?35 million bail with two sureties to Kingsley Adjei, a trader, accused of fraud.

Adjei will re-appear before the court on September 9, this year.

Presenting the facts of the case to the tribunal, Police Chief Inspector I. K. Afful said Osei Kwame, the tailor, who is the complainant, and Kingsley Adjei the accused, are church members.

Sometime in August, this year, the complainant informed the accused, Kingsley Adjei, of one con-man who has duped him of ?10 million under the pretext of sending him to America.

Chief Inspector Afful said the accused feigned sympathy and made a presentation that he was in the position to help the complainant to trace the con-man and also help him to procure his documents to travel to Germany.

According to the prosecution, by that representation, the accused succeeded in collecting ?20 million and an additional $1,900 from the complainant, under the pretext of procuring documents and sending complainant to Germany.

The prosecutor stated that the accused, therefore, fixed a date for their departure but at the fixed date the accused kept on postponing until he disappeared.

According to the prosecutor, the accused was spotted by the complainant at Asafo and with the assistance of some concerned residents he was arrested and handed over to the police.

After investigations, the accused admitted the offence and was charged with fraud.
