Here is The Evidence that Some Ghanaians Sell their Conscience for a Pittance

– Shame Though

It is sad that most Ghanaians believe in what they will earn or eat today but never care about what their lives will become tomorrow consequent upon the actions they take today. Yes, they believe in letting tomorrow care about itself as admonished in Matthew 6:34 – "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own".

On Ghanaweb under their General News of Tuesday, 24 November 2015 there was a story titled, "I paid money to reduce NO votes against Mahama - Appoh" The underlying web link takes you to the full story.

Rachel Appoh is an NDC Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central. From the story which comes from the horse's own mouth, she had to bribe, thus, give money to some dissenting NDC members to induce them to vote "yes" for President Mahama during last Saturday's conduction of NDC primaries elections to choose their presidential and parliamentary candidates for election 2016.

The people she influenced with money, had determined to vote "No" against President Mahama, even though he was the sole contestant competing against himself for the NDC presidential candidature for the upcoming 2016 general elections.

After the offer of bribe, most of the people according to Rachel Appoh rescinded their earlier decision and then voted "yes" for President Mahama alias Dead Goat.

I have a few questions for both Ms Appoh and the people who accepted bribes from her.

Does Rachel Appoh know that it is criminal to influence the decision of an office holder or whoever to get them decide in your favour?

Does Rachel know that her action infringes Ghana Criminal Code Act 1960 (Act 29) Sections 239 to 247 and that she is in breach of the 1992 Ghana Republican Constitution under which Ghana operates as a democratic county?

Where did she get the money to bribe the people from? Was it from her own pocket or from the public purse?

What goaded her into bribing the people to reduce their intended "No" vote against President Mahama?

Does she know that the "Yes" vote results obtained in her constituency for President Mahama are not the true reflection of the people's wishes and love for the President?

Those who were influenced with pittance (I do not know exactly how much money was given to each individual to influence their decision), do they know that they have sold their conscience and birth- right for money? Have they not behaved similarly like Esau who out of hunger sold the benefits of his seniority to his junior brother Jacob? Genesis 25:29-34 (29 Once when Jacob was cooking stew, Esau came in from the field, and he was exhausted. 30 And Esau said to Jacob, "Let me eat some of that red stew, for I am exhausted!" (Therefore his name was called Edom. [a]) 31 Jacob said, "Sell me your birthright now." 32 Esau said, "I am about to die; of what use is a birthright to me?" 33 Jacob said, "Swear to me now." So he swore to him and sold his birthright to Jacob. 34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew, and he ate and drank and rose and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright).

For accepting the bribes, do they know they have breached the laws of the land and portrayed themselves as having short memories if indeed they are not shallow-minded hence giving President Mahama the reason to insult the intelligence of Ghanaians?

Will the money they accepted bring about what they rather actually expected from the government that could have boosted the collective welfare of the people of their community?

When at all will Ghanaians stand up tall to demonstrate their integrity without being influenced by corruption?

For what Rachel Appoh has done and without feeling shame but has come out publicly to announce to the whole world, I find her a complete misfit to be an MP let alone, A Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Gender and Social Protection.

Why it is that most of our current crop of politicians seems not to have brains to govern the nation? If their actions which speak louder than words are anything to go by, one will be right to say they are completely not up to the task of governing the nation because they lack intelligence and ability to govern. Most of them like Rachel are complete square poles wobbling in round holes.
