The world is moving at a fast pace, a trend which is increasingly causing people to miss breakfast, the most important meal of the day. Breakfast literally means to ‘break the fast’. Basically, this meal helps to top up the energy stores that the human body has used overnight for repair and renewal.

People are constantly faced with getting to work on time and beating deadlines in a competitive world. The situation threatens proper nutrition especially in the morning, when people are in a haste to beat the ‘rush-hour’. Thus, experts have identified seven reasons which make breakfast worth caring about.

If you are going to get ahead in your career and improve your state of wellness, you cannot afford to miss protecting yourself with essential nutrients. Essentially, nobody wants to arrive at work feeling grumpy.

Breakfast gives one a natural burst of energy you need to start your day.

According to experts, a healthy breakfast can give you the nutritional boost your body needs, including fibre, vitamins and minerals. Breakfast provides between 15 to 25% of your total daily energy intake. The goal however is to ensure that whatever breakfast one takes is healthy and not breakfast for the sake of it.

Weight gain or obesity continues to be a major problem worldwide and increases one’s risk of getting diabetes and other health-threatening conditions. Skipping or eating a breakfast that lacks the essential nutrients needed by the body can make you more likely to reach for unhealthy and high-calorie foods later on.

Poor breakfast options or a lack of it may shoot-up your chances of becoming obese. In fact, research shows that individuals who consume a quality breakfast tend to have a healthier daily food pattern than those who don’t.

Instead of resorting to unhealthy snacks, it is advised that people plan and prioritize their breakfast so they can have the opportunity of selecting the foods which are good for their wellbeing.

Eating a healthy morning meal and smaller portions more often throughout the day will help to balance your energy and enable your body to perform at its best. Simply relying on two large, heavy meals per day puts too much pressure on your body, it will make it easier to control your calorie intake if you have 3 main meals and 2 snacks.

Improved mental performance, concentration and mood – three more reasons to enjoy a morning meal! Without breakfast, you may struggle to focus and are more likely to be irritable and tired. And don’t forget to rehydrate after a night’s sleep too. Staying hydrated will also help you to concentrate throughout the day.
