Growing concerns over Volta RFA verdict sparks calls for GFA intervention

Questions continue to mount within the Volta football fraternity following the controversial verdict delivered by the Volta Regional Football Association Disciplinary Committee regarding the recent Middle League protest case.

Several stakeholders and observers have begun raising concerns over what many describe as procedural inconsistencies, administrative inefficiencies, and a lack of thorough investigation before the ruling was delivered.

At the center of the controversy is the decision to retrospectively alter the outcome of a match that had already been officially organized, supervised, and completed under the authority of the Volta RFA.

Critics argue that if a club was genuinely ineligible to participate due to outstanding disciplinary obligations, the Regional FA should have enforced the regulations before the fixture was played rather than allowing the match to proceed and later annulling the result after completion.

Even more troubling to observers is the manner in which the hearing itself was reportedly conducted.

Sources familiar with the proceedings indicate that the Committee largely relied on the verbal assertions and representations of the Regional FA Secretariat without conducting any independent verification into claims that monies may have been owed by the RFA to the affected club arising from previously rescheduled fixtures.

Many believe that basic administrative due diligence required the Committee to thoroughly investigate the financial relationship between the parties before arriving at such a significant sporting decision.

Concerns have also been raised over issues of procedural fairness after reports emerged that the affected club was not invited to personally testify before the Committee or fully present its version of events during the hearing process.
Observers argue that disciplinary proceedings of such magnitude should not rely solely on administrative submissions without affording all parties a full and fair opportunity to be heard.

The ruling has therefore sparked wider debate about the administrative structures and governance standards within the Volta Regional Football

Association, particularly regarding:
- enforcement consistency,

- communication of disciplinary sanctions,

- financial accountability,

- and procedural transparency.

Some football followers believe the matter now goes beyond a single protest case and touches on the broader integrity and credibility of football administration within the region.

There are now growing calls for the Ghana Football Association to intervene and independently review the circumstances surrounding the case to ensure that the principles of fairness, sporting certainty, and natural justice are upheld.

Stakeholders insist that football regulations must be applied consistently, transparently, and fairly, especially in competitions where clubs invest significant financial and emotional resources in pursuit of qualification and promotion.

As discussions intensify across the football community, many are hoping that the appeals process or possible intervention from the national football authorities will provide clarity and restore confidence in the administration of the competition.
