Ghana should benefit if Amartey secures more game time with Leicester City

Ghana’s international defender Daniel Amartey made five Premier League appearances for Leicester City after signing for the Foxes from FC Kobenhavn in January.

Understandably it wasn’t easy to dislodge Wes Morgan and Robert Huth from the heart of Claudio Ranieri’s defence over the latter months of the season, as Leicester went on to claim the most surprising Premier League title in history.

With Champions League football and domestic matches in the coming campaign, there should be more opportunities for Amartey in the months ahead, with Ranieri almost certainly needing to rotate his squad to keep players fresh.

The versatility of Amartey could be a huge asset for Ranieri in the new football season ahead and, in addition to being used at the back, there is also a possibility of him being deployed in a midfield role as a potential replacement for the Chelsea-bound N’GoloKante.

The more opportunities Amartey and his Leicester and national team mate Jeffrey Schlupp get at club level in the Premier League and the Champions League, the better it should be for the Black Stars.

With crucial World Cup qualifiers with Egypt, Congo and Uganda on the horizon, it can only be beneficial to Avram Grant to have players with experience of playing at the very highest levels of club football.
