Ghana: A Nation Full Of Critics And Mourners

I was awakened today to a tune of yesterday
A tune which I thought that I had left behind
Little did I know that the mourners had stayed awake
Agonizing their frustrations through this wicked tune
The lyrical content of this tune fell short of grace
For many have heard it spoken right in their faces
In a room where our salty tears have become earth
Look at what Rawlings did--it read
Nineteen years of our lives gone to waste
The mourners kept on singing this tune in discord
As if its melody was healing

A nation confronted with so many unresolved issues
Yet these mourners continue to hold on to the past
See what Kufour did--they say
Eight long years of our lives gone to waste
They pound their fists full of rage on the dry earth
In an attempt to shake up the dead to awake
How pitiful
What's done is done--the time ticks on
Memory is all that remains
The memory which you and I are destined to become

Everybody seems to know it better in Ghana
But only a few does anything good
The critics criticize just for fun
I know that they would never see the sun
Mills is slow--they say
Have they ever seen an old man run pass his age
Surely--if time is of the essence
Then everything would be done in time
So why hit the ground running
If you can crawl

I have left the gate ajar for our mourners and critics
In case they should choose to leave this premise
I know that my words mean nothing to them
They would try to listen but they wouldn't hear
They would read but they wouldn't understand
The morning would come to found them here
Still singing their tunes in discord
Pounding their fists full of rage
Criticizing just for fun
It would feel like I spoke
But in a hush
