Editorial: Parliament must punish 'Vovozula' Kennedy Agyepong

GHANA'S PARLIAMENT, THE 2nd most powerful institution in the country, must instituet severe punishment against Kennedy Agyepong if it really wants Ghanaians to continue according it the necessary respect.

To take such a decision it should be the combined effort of both sides of the house. It should be non-partisan and a collective decision worth taking to save the integrity of parliament, which for some time now has been in tatters.
We at The Crystal Clear Lens have been monitoring closely the utterances of Kennedy Agyepong and have come to agree with majority of Ghanaians that the NPP's MP for Assin North, does not have any modicum of integrity to serve at such an important institution of the country.

Kennedy Agyepong is not just a stooge of backward of the Ghanaian political elite but the biggest disappointment and embarrassment to the entire Parliament of Ghana and must be dealt with according the standing orders of the august house.

This, we believe, will serve as caveat to other members of parliament to take the business of the house very serious and not as a place of gross misconduct and show of stupidity.

Last week, buffeted by a comment by one AfiaSchwarzengger, MP as usual descended into the gutters, exchanging what can be described as disgraceful insults of the century with the young woman bringing the name of parliament in disrepute.

We have being trying to find one word that would be best suited to describe his actions though, it has been usual of him but it has proven to be as difficult as a camel passing through the eye of a needle, because his action is simply disgraceful, shameful and despicable to say the least.

Listening to him, he is always quick to tell people that but for politics who are they to talk to him? May be what he is forgetting is that, if not that politics in the NPP is for the highest bidder, and that means even having questionable persons like him can also lay claim to belong to that party, what in heaven's name is someone with low self-esteem like Mr. Agyapong will be doing in Parliament?

We are amazed that such characters like Kennedy Agyapong, who can barely behave maturely could take part in the enactment of laws that would be binding on us and generations yet unborn.

We believe that if parliament was ready to crack the whip Kennedy Agyapong would have been stripped of his parliamentary status long ago.

Last year, when he as usual openly engaged Alhaji Bature in one of his shouting match on the air waves, which is where he practices his parliamentary duties.
He called him names, describing him in certain unsavory words and making a statement that is unbecoming and unexpected of an MP, we at the Republic can't repeat here but nothing as usual was done to stop him from continuing such.

We will want to add our voice to the many calls on the Privileges Committee of Parliament, which is intended to serve as a watchdog organization over Members of Parliament and Members of Parliament to come out from its shell and invite Kennedy Agyepong to answer questions on uncouth actions.
